24) Message boards : Number crunching : @Admins: quorum of 3 results needed (Message 4056)

Actually for the project it's of no importance at all if people claim and get more or less credit. If they use a quorum of 3 they will just get 3 times less work done. So why would they do it? It's a problem of Boinc, not of this project. Rosetta shouldn't change a thing as far as I am concerned, as long as they receive valid scientific results. As for the optimized clients. Just ban them all together if it's that important. Or let everyone use them. Maybe that's a bit a simplistic view, but I think projects should not create unnecessary and duplicate work because of this 'credit' game. After all, it's no more than that, a game.

I'm running 1di2__abrelax_rand_len10_jit02_omega_sim_graphics_00638_0 using rosetta_graphics_beta version 479, 90% far now.

When I look at the graphics screen it contains 2 question marks:
- 1 in the zone where the 'Native' structure should be drawn. Instead of the structure it shows a question mark.
- Another where it says 'Accepted RMSD'. Instead of a number if also shows a question mark.

I have made a screenshot. If you want I can e-mail it to you, Rosetta team.

Speaking of flash, any flash gurus out there want to donate their time to develop a "Rosetta@home intro/info" flash segment?

Personally I never install Flash on any of my machines. Because it is reponsible for all the annoying pup-ups and flying windows with ads that scream for your attention. Not to mention the countless home pages with a 'Skip Intro' command. I only install it if it is necessary to view a certain website I really need to see. And after I uninstall it again. Ah well, that's me ;-)

Content is much more important than showing off tech skills. An appealing combination of style and graphics contributes much more to a pleasant user experience.

Only if you are using them without their owners' or users' permission. Which you shouldn't do anyway.

i cant copy messages from within Boinc. !?

I suppose you refer to messages in Boinc Manager's message tab. Select a number of messages and choose 'Copy selected messages'. Should work.

<cry> <sob> 2 graphics WU have passed me by in the night. Isn't there an option somewhere in Boinc, 'No graphics at night'? Not to worry, I see 3 more in the queue. Seems like a new flock has been released :-)

Ok, ok, let the Dutch join your team. BOINC.BE is a real Belgian team for Belgians and their friends. Of course Dutch can join as well. But only if they're looking for an experienced Boinc team with its own forum and statistics.

Btw: Hijacking another team's thread is not good netiquette.

WCG use the UD client framework for windows and boinc client framework for linux.

WCG now has a Boinc client for Windows as well. I'm just now trying out my first WU's.

Ethan, could you explain what you mean by this? It won't like it in what sense? The amount of memory used by 2 work units running at the same time?

Right, on my other machines the work units I am running are probably a few days old. Where on the test machine they are fresh. That must be it. Thanks.

Strange thing. The newest work units seem to progress in steps of 10% on all my machines. Up to now. Because since yesterday I am running a few tests on a Xeon with 2 processors (so 4 virtual cpu's). And there it progresses in steps of 5%. Strange, strange. Or is it?

Could this be the cause? From the Seti website:

November 1, 2005
Give your computer some variety - check out Rosetta@home. This new BOINC-based project aims to solve the ab initio protein structure prediction problem, and to design new chemical catalysts and potential HIV vaccines. Participants who found the lowest energy structures have already been acknowledged in a scientific paper describing the results.

Maybe there's a surge of new subscribers causing a serious backlog in work production.

I am getting intermittent 'No work from project' replies from the Rosetta server. Last time it took 3 attempts of my client to get work. Yet I see in the status that 89,369 wu are queued. What is causing this? I have my work queue set a 0.1 days. But with this going on it might be safer to take a higher number to avoid running dry.
