Any clue ? This happens on 8 diferent tasks, reboots, Boinc upgrade to 5.10.30, Reset project, abort task, Nothing helps.

Ed, is it just the one task? Or are you now have similar problem with other tasks as well?

If just the one task, obviously an abort of that one should clear up it's problems.

If it's happening on all of your tasks, I can only suggest doing a detach of the project, and then attach again. This will download a fresh copy of all of the dlls.

Now about 120 different tasks. I've done that ( reset project about 5 times ). ( As stated in the first post )

All finish with "compute error" as reported status; and all restart ( over and over ) after about 4 seconds.

It is not about the amount of memory installed in your computer, it is about the amount of memory available to run the client. Depending on what other applications are currently running the amount of memory available to Boinc and project clients can indeed change.

These machines are XP-Pro with nothing active but Boinc and running Rosetta exclusively. So all the memory was availabe to the Boinc client. Anyway, this "fix" seems to be working after two or three days of experience. Fingers crossed. BTW, Hi Thomas from a fellow Team Helix member. It has been rather frustrating to watch my RAC drop like a rock due to this problem. Either they changed Rosetta, or we found a workaround.

Status update:

Following suggestions posted here, I adjusted preferences to allow a max of one CPU. This indeed limited the scheduler to one task on hyper threaded machines. So far so good. I did encounter one anomaly when a task ( the only one running ) stalled and reported waiting for memory. I'm not sure where it thought it would get more. No limits set and system managed memory enabled. Hundreds of GB not enough ? I aborted the job an Boinc continued.

On line but unable to get any work units that can be processed in 256 MB on 2.6 Ghz intel hyperthreading processors. Too bad.

Beta 5.85 causes my four Intel P4 cpus to crash in Visual C++ with a Runtime Error.

This requires manual intervention, which I cannot give, since these are off-site.

The error reads:
Program ...Bakerlab.org_rosettarosetta_beta_5.05_windows_intelx86.exe

The application requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the applications suppport team for more information.

These are crashing within 3 to 4 minutes. I've probably had 50 of these over the last two weeks. Here's an id.: 179513

These settings, tucked away under Personalization will really cut your output ! The granted credit can drop to HALF the claimed credit, cuz your CPU will go to sleep when you aren't on the keyboard.

What's this mean ?

Complete reinstall - including delete BOINC directory - re link to project did the trick. Thanks.

Remember when people with BIG HANDS got all the promotions ?

It means you have some weird problem with the automatic download of the new Rosetta version. I'd say leave it and see if it all sorts itself out after a retry or three - the software at your end is obviously backing off for 10mins to see if the issue resolves itself, but those who know more than I do may advise differently.

R~~

[quote]Ed, you mentioned in your other post that you are running 4 projects. I've noticed that it seems when I bring BOINC back up after such a drop, that it is ALWAYS downloading files.... /quote]

I only run Rosetta. New theory is that this is related to hyperthreaded Intel processors. So I am trying limiting max processors to 1.
