I just wanted to remind people about Boinc's anonymous platform setting.

If the app_info.xml file is present it will stop boinc from automatically downloading a project client.

I think that is a really bad idea, as the new rosetta files are (mosly) better and help the research go further.
2) Message boards : Number crunching : New Boinc ONLINE help system using Skype (Message 32118)

Post:
There is another way to get help. Dr. Anderson (Boinc) introduced it tonite. It's called the Online help system. It uses Skype and it's free. Help can be via text or voice.

What is "Skype"? And assuming it's some sort of application (using voice???) why would a help desk require users to install and configure *another* application to get simple help desk assistance? What happened to email that everyone has and uses?

i would guess it's aimed at people that already have voip/skype. nothing has happened to email...

next to that, a little Skype promotion doesn't hurt.

Hi, Chu!
I had no problems with any cores yet, but i thnk that there is a traffic problem with new cores wich updating every month now. Especially for crunchers who have lots of computers. What do you think about it? I try to copy new cores to the folder with Rosetta and it works. Maybe it would be better to place new cores on your website for free upload? And add to perferences of Rosetta something like ability to update cores manualy or auto. It's only one way. Maybe you can give another guess.
Best regards!

You could, if all clients are in the same network (it also works if it is not, but slower) use a proxy server.
This proxy server is able to cache files downloaded from rosetta (like the core) and transfer the files very quick to the clients.

and you only need to download the file once from rosetta, so the servers are much less stressed, and you get the cores on all machines very fast.

Thanks for the IPv6 enabled version :)

as for the 5.6.x versions, it will never reach final state as the development team went on with 5.7/5.8 because they didn't want to release two final versions in about a month time.

Are you able to compile a version for me with an IPv6 enabled libCurl?

I would like to test if it works without any other modifications, but haven't got time to setup a compiler environment for Boinc

Many thanks.

I found some more hormones... no time to mention / explain them at this moment.

I'll try to promote Rosetta during the presentation.

I would like to know it these two things are related.

Tomorrow I will be giving a presentation on some medical related stuff for my study.

and I would like to know if these two have something related as I would like to know if I can mention things like Rosetta@home that might be able to cure Hormone Diseases.

Good luck! We'll keep an eye on the servers.

Jep, you better do so!! I don't know what we'll see saturday/sunday, but I'm sure our output will be huge!

I wish you all many succes with this project.

I wished DPC could get something like this done, but even a Stampede won't give this much output.

...it is good that last week I put up a Proxy between my Boinc clients (software) so I only need to download it once, insted of five times.

Robinski, could you post a link to some info. on what you did?

Actualy I haven't got many info on it, I use Winroute for connectivity, wich has a build in Proxy. You could use any proxy you want, like Squid.

And I configured my Boinc client's to use the proxy.

and ready you are.

PS. just give the Proxy eough room to store files, I setup a space for 512MB, but about 90MB is used.

Actually, Boinc just downloaded version Rosetta 5.22 to my iMac Core Duo for Rosetta. The worker is rosetta_5.22_i686-apple-darwin. There were also a ton of other files downloaded.

They just realeased it to the public

The change from 5.16 to 5.22 is also a factor as everybody needs to download a new executable.

but if Rosetta can't cope with the fact that this many clients try to download, then something needs to be done to prevent this in the future. (thats my opinion)

next to this al, it is good that last week I put up a Proxy between my Boinc clients (software) so I only need to download it once, insted of five times.

They turned their servers down for awhile and now the Rosetta version is 5.22 up from 5.16. They must have been upgrading to the new version 5.22 because my pc downloaded that version now and it is listed on their website. It is all back up and working now.

Actualy I have these problems for the whole day.
and 5.22 is just online for a few hours.

Somehow today, connectivity to the Rosetta servers is very bad.

I even can't normaly visit the Message Boards.

I am not the only as more people from the Dutch Power Cows have had this today.

Could someone look into it?

The CPU is used when no other process needs the CPU.
When using a Word Processor or an Internet Browser, the CPU is only loaded for about 1% during the day. the rest is used for Rosetta.

The only thing rosetta uses is some of the RAM, but 512mb should be enough to ensure nobody notices.

I don't know if this is able to work, but you cloud try.

Maby the use of a proxy server (at your end of the line) that only is used for BOINC could reduce trafic. as when more than once a file should be downloaded it is downloaded from the proxy.

And try using Dimitris option of setting your WU's to 8 or more hours

Just my 2 cents...

PS. proxy would also cache for multiple client's so if PC1 downloads the file, PC2 and PC3 dont have to get it from the Internet but just from the Proxy.

Wonderful results from the AP article. See all the stats.

I already noticed this, and started a thread about it, as I thougt it maby was some sort of bug.

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=1728

it is very good to see that the number of users and hosts is increasing so rapidly.

and even better for Rosetta as more users and hosts will result in more work being done for CASP.

Is this a bug or is this for real!?
