By any measure Aussie Assault 9 (AA9) on QMC has been a fantastic success!!

Even though AA9 is officially over, the team has just passed 10 million credits in QMC, the last 5 million all in the last 18 days. That is an enormous amount of science crunched.

The team's daily output should have started winding down to about double its pre-AA levels, about 50,000 a day, but we are still seeing around 250,000 a day. Not to bad for QMC.

It should start to drop in the next week or so but the project has caught the interest of many BOINC@AUSTRALIA members. That's another great side affect of the AA's.

The next event starts on 1 December 2007.

No, that one finished after I went to bed. :-) No other problems so far. I expect a bit of a pause around the 10 minute to go mark, this one just seem to go longer. Perhaps it snuck in a work unit from another project while I wasn't looking. Didn't see any in the messages though.

Work unit 94392699 on computer 551987 has been stuck at 97.756% finished with about 00:9:54 to go for most of today. Unlike the last time this occurred to me, the CPU is at 100% use. However, the CPU time (done) is still only showing a bit over 7 hours.

Is this a real problem?

Linda, can you use the same user name on the BOINC@AUSTRALIA boards?

I tried to join the boincaustralia team but got regected

Linda, John Hunt sent me an e-mail about that. Sorry, I'll get that fixed ASAP by e-mailing our webmaster directly. I'll let him know that I checked and you are already running at least one BOINC project for BOINC@AUSTRALIA which is our only selection criteria.

Don't know what happened and I'm sorry that it did. As soon as I've posted this, I'll send the details to our Webmaster.

edit: Linda, in case our webmaster doesn't still have your details, would you be able to apply again? Please :) ??

Regards

Mike
Team recruitment Officer.

PS: Thanks for that John, much appreciated.

A weeks not enough on RALPH:
17/08/2006 3:07:56 PM|ralph@home|5 consecutive failures fetching scheduler list - deferring 604800 seconds
17/08/2006 3:07:56 PM|ralph@home|Deferring scheduler requests for 1 weeks, 0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes and 0 seconds

A weeks wait will return these results between 3 and 4 days late.

It was 46c here the weekend before last. I would have been happy to get a lot of rain afterwards :) Here being about 2 hours east of Seattle.

Now that is getting hot. I always suspected Seattle had similar weather to Melbourne. I'm getting a bit worried what summer will be like here given we can get in to the 40's in a normal summer.

Worse too, I suppose, Melbourne's reservoirs are down to around 45% full and they told us the (five year) drought had broken!

I guess that's why the poet said, "A land of drought and flooding rains...."

Hi Sally,

Welcome neighbour.

I have to second Feet1st's comments as to your country being beautiful, but not as beautiful as across the Tasman. LOL

You will enjoy being at Rosetta. They would have to be the most friendly, cordial, and dedicated people I have ever come across in the distributed computing arena.

I am sure you will enjoy it here.

Ian

PS. Go the Wallabies. :-P

Winkle, why haven't you joined BOINC@Australia ;-)

Does anyone know the percentage of people running Rosetta that is on a team/not on a team?

Hi John,

if you look here, you will see that only 18 percent of Rosetta users are in teams.

That 18% are producing 48.1% of the results. I was going to say something similar to Kath, "I do it for the fun and comraderie" and that I believe we encourage each other to keep going. I think the stats say that too.

Post:
I wonder what will happen with projects that don't have checkpoints in their application? Will it run the wu to completion "waiting" for a checkpoint that never comes?

uFluids, for example, does not checkpoint, and my last wu there was a 20+ hour beast.

That's a very good question I hope has been taken in to count when the designers spec'd it.

I think uFluids has checkpoints now, doesn't it?

When I try to update my "Message board preferences" I get the following error:
Couldn't update forum preferences.
Unknown column 'minimum_wrap_postcount' in 'field list'

Is there a fix listed for this?

David Kim reports that this issue has been fixed.

Worked perfectly. That was very quick, thanks.

Also be aware there is a VNC vulnerability that will allow anyone to take over your desktop if you have VNC server running (it's something you have to install, so if you don't know what VNC is, you probably don't have it). I was sitting at my work computer and suddenly the mouse started jumping around the screen. Fun stuff :)

That's one of those things were you wonder how long ago they found your web cam 8-O

If you're using Win Xp. Try resetting the TCP/IP stack.

Start -> Run. Type in: netsh int ip reset outfile.txt (it needs a dump file).

If you're on dial-up, you're supposed to delete and add a new DUN entry with a different name. The usual suggestion is ISP1 (Where ISP are your ISP's intials) that way support desks know what's happened.

Close everything and reboot.

This has been a very bad experience. I left months ago. You guys have made it very complex - so much so that it's difficult to make it work & understand. My (very new) PC found it hard to cope & so did I.

The newsletter tonight prompted me to update my profile to "don't send anything to me".

A worthy cause but too many issues for me to volunteer.

Sooooooooo complicated.

Steve, join BOINC@Australia and you can get all the help you need with this project and any others you might be in.

I don't think iX clicked on your profile, the image in the background is very recognisable.

Oh iX mate! You might want to click on mine as well ;-) and see what I do in my free time.

[edit] Actually, I have to be very carefull about that, the youngest female entertainer I've filmed was 15. There are very strict Australian Standards and requirements to do that. I'm also watched from the control room and there is a floor manager and three other camera operators too. All for the obvious reasons. So any interaction between on-air talent and crew is subject to scrutiny. Been there, done that, screwed it up ;-) I'll get free beer for life with that story though. She was not from the above band, my friend was in a retro band [/edit]
