That's the only difference besides the fact the 1 512 stick will be easier to upgrade, especially if you only have 2 ram slots.

And if you get a PSU that has more power than you need, you probably would be drawing less power from the wall, because a smaller PSU would have to work much harder to produce power if it's working at it's peak rating. A larger PSU isn't necessarily going to draw more power from the wall just because it's capable of more power. It will only draw as much as it needs. And those no-namers would probably last about 2-3 months powering that computer, if in fact it was able to. And when it did die, there's a chance it take something with it.

A 180w no-name PSU could possibly be useful on a P2 cruncher, but that's about it. I'd suggest at least a 400w from Forton or Antec. And if you aren't going to be overclocking, why get the DDR2-800? The Core 2 Duo mobile is the T7xxx. And it utterly destroys any other chip. Stock client at 3.1ghz on an E6600, I think, was about 3000, 6000.

The ASUS P5W DH is a pretty good mobo, but it's usually more than $250. ATM it's $269.99 at the Egg.

My old Duron running at stock has a float of 927.73 and an int of 1620.25 with the standard Linux client. But that Duron seems to be crunching about half as many models per cpu-hour as the Kentfield does. Some people are really going to be in for a shock when the Rosetta project starts awarding credit based on actual work done. if you'll notice, in your rosetta settings, the WU's run for a certain amount of time before uploading. its a little option called "target CPU runtime". so, if you had your target CPU runtime for 2 hours, and he had the kentsfield on 4, it would look like you are completing half the WU's his kentsfield is completing. but in reality, your duron might be doing about 25% what 1 core of his kentsfield is doing, if even that much. ex2cib XS_The_Machine

My Kentsfield is a monster I run it at 3.5ghz at 1.45v and all it does is crunch... Its a shame cuz its the fastest thing I have ever messed with. Even makes windows look good..LOL I run all my rigs for VNS ATM (just a friendly competition on our sub-teams) This Kentsfield is an ES CPU but I'll tell you its deff ready for production cuz I have not seen one flaw in it... It loves 64bit more than you could know. I am prolly going to take it down tonight to get some benching on phase change. There is one guy who did about 4.2ghz on LN2 this week and I want to see how mine will do as well. Now all the guys who are wondering how this will compare to the Woodcrest well, IDK but I honestly dont think the 5150 will do as well even with FBDimms. I will put some 2x1gb for better performance and we will see. I am trying to find a good fair benchmark prog to measure realworld performance... If anyone wants more info about these cpu's come over to XS I am one of the Admins there and feel free to contact me.. This is a good indicator of the XTREME dedication that our team has for the Rosetta project. These CPU's where purchased for the CASP 7 push. Hats off to you NJKID.

(Message 17433) Posted 31 May 2006 by XS_The_Machine Post: I was using Boincstudio with optimization on Rosetta for a few days on 6 different computers and there was one common thing. All computers had FLOPS+IOPS between 9500 - 12500. And all of them were claiming around 50-70 credits for 10000s WU. Actually P3 500MHz 160MB RAM was claiming very similar credits to A64 3200+ 1GB RAM. As I'm looking at credit claims of other people, those who has high claims has often FLOPS and IOPS like 3693 and 6249 (together 9942) and are claiming around 60 credits per WU. It looks pretty familiar. Now I think this is the way how to recognize BoincStudio clients with optimization turned on. +++ Update: +++ I was looking at top 10 members of several random teams. My small statistic is pretty simple: every second user is cheating with credit claims! (I was not counting users with hidden computers. Together I was counting around 30-40 users. I treated user as cheating, when at least one of his computers has benchmarks more than 2 times higher as what I would expect for that particular processor type.) If you could, Please cite a few examples. Thank You
