I can't wait to see the TeraFLOP estimate spike when all the complete work units start pouring in after this is resolved.

I cannot upload completed work either, starting this morning.
I run Windows 7 and ESET Smart Security - never had any issue until today and no software changed.

Hello Rosetta,

I have a machine running for you but the files that are ready will not update.
However I got new ones every time. A lot of WU's have run for nothing as the deadline was never meet due to thus uploading problem.
Will you do something to this, or can I find another project for this pc?

I have mentioned this over and over, and it seems I am not the only one with this. Will you please take action?
Thanks.

I have the same problem and no solution. I have a really fast machine here and could have been contribution 24/7 all year long but no workunits upload. I tried detaching and re-attaching, reinstalling, rebooting and nothing works. Download and computation works fine, but no ability to upload. It stops at 16kb and hangs.

I have problem with this computer - http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=1516973 - Validate state: Invalid. Others project as Milkyway etc. works fine. Where is the problem? (Bionic version: 6.12.34 for Windows 64-bit).

I'd suggest completely uninstalling *all* of your boinc clients, making sure you've removed everything, and then reinstalling. On the same computer, it looks like you're getting results tagged with both client version 6.12.34 and with version 6.10.58. I'm guessing in the dark here, but it might be that you have two boinc client versions installed on the same machine (or had a botched upgrade) and the conflict between the two is causing issues with your Rosetta@home runs.

By the way, the "Validate state: Invalid" is a bit of a red herring. The more relevant line is "Outcome: Client error". If it was really a validation issue, it would be "Outcome: Validate error". (Validate state is listed as invalid because things never got to the point where it could switch to being valid.)

I detached from Rosetta and then re-attached. I was able to upgrade to the new Rosetta version and download more work. Almost done crunching 7 tasks. If the upload works when they are complete, I'll be a happy camper.

***update*** My computer finished crunching and is now stuck again trying to upload completed work. It gets to 16Kb uploaded and then stops. Is there something else I can try?

I keep on getting project backoffs from my uploads for a couple days now, and I can't download any new workunits for the same reason. Is it working for anyone else?

I am having the exact same problem. I have no idea why or how to fix it. Too bad because I have 40 completed work units awaiting upload.

I am having trouble uploading, too. It keeps stopping at 16KB completed and never goes past that. I hope it gets resolved soon. Seems like it's not my machine, which is a relief!

hi ! i have 3 computers running rosetta , and almost all the workunits are crashing and finishing with computation error , and im not the first person who has noticed this . is this a known issue ?

Same issue here. Not sure what is happening...I hope it is resolved soon.

None of my computers has been able to download any work to do since this afternoon. Is there an issue with the Rosetta side or something else I should look at from my end?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. I tried looking around a bit but didn't see any notification of issues.

Same here. I'm sure they will fix it soon.

In the last few days, I found email addresses for about half a dozen blogs, charities or research groups related to cancer, and told all of them about the three BOINC projects I've found that are working on cancer research.

No word yet on which of them decided to do anything about it.

Awesome! Good idea. See if any of them are sponsored by a famous Hollywood type. That could be our ticket :)

Do you think it would help the security concerns if the hosts all go through a proxy system that is local to the enterprise? That can audit all incoming and outgoing data? They could even run an exit program against all outgoing data to confirm nothing sensitive is going out. And in using the proxy, they would also be minimizing the internet bandwidth requirements of the hosts.

...just thinking out loud... best way to get them to trust BOINC is to get them to USE BOINC. What could one do with BOINC that a corporate environment might benefit from crunching against their own data? Does anyone know of any BOINC projects with a business, rather then scientific emphasis?

I am sure there are many ways to prove it is safe. However, unless the firm's uptick in electricity becomes a charitable, tax-deductible contribution you won't get them to even try. Also, I think it would cost something to set it up in a large firm and get it to work right. Damn it would be cool, though. Next time I become good friends with a CEO of a 75k+ employee firm I will make sure we get our day in the sun.

I'd really love to be able to recruit a big player, such as a university or a company, but I don't have the contacts for that right now.

I've tried to get several major companies that I have worked for to try and I have been unsuccessful. Usually, the reason is security. So I started presenting the idea while simultaneously showing that it is safe. Now green initiatives get in the way. It would be really neat, though, because companies copy eachother all the time - they are very much trend followers. If you got one big company to roll it out, you'd be sure to get a few more. That would be huge.

I think it would be neat if someone did it just to show it is possible. The next step would be to get a major corporation to join up and defrey the extra electricity costs with tax incentives. I have tried every place I have worked to no avail. Interestingly, the security issue has not been the biggest problem. It's more about cost cutting. Too bad.

Absolutely. Maybe some day!

Very cool!

I so wish most computer makers (Dell, HP, etc) installed distributed computing programs by default on their computers and on first boot a pop up explained quickly what the program did and gave the option of turning it on, off, or to give it a share of x% of CPU.

Right now there's probably 99.99% of potential computing power that is sitting idle in the world... What a waste.

No, I think it's fair enough. As long as I can get a sense of how much work I've completed, that's enough for me. I just wish I could get my company to join up.

Wow, this is *very* cool. Congrats to F@H! Good press for DC projects in general. I wish I had an option to do this with Rosie...

If you read Sony's release you can see that they left the door open to other projects in the future, so perhaps they will build a link to BOINC. That would rule.
