I have sorted the problem apparently after the msconfig thingy. It kept asking me if I wanted to start in safe mode and then I had tick a box to stop the restore screen coming up each time I started but I think I have it going ok now. I am not totally computer literate so I don't want to complicate things too much. The simple fix did the job. Thanks again.

I have checked my notes and the old version of boinc was 5.4.11. The message I kept getting was "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" I think it also said something about taking an alternate path to boinc.msi I then went to the microsoft site to download their "clean uninstall tool". And yes, both managers launch on startup. The only duplicated process according to task manager however is boincmgr.exe The other two boinc.exe and boinctray.exe are not duplicated.
4) Message boards : Number crunching : Two icons in system tray (Message 61257) Posted 19 May 2009 by Steve Jordan Post: Upgraded to Boinc 6.6.20 a few weeks ago when 4 point something (I think) stopped working correctly. I am running Rosetta and Seti on Windoze XP. Since putting 6.6.20 on I have two icons in my system tray. Windoze Task Mgr shows that boincmgr.exe is installed twice and using a bit of memory. I can stop one by "end process" but I don't want to do this every time it starts up. How do I stop it. From memory, when I first upgraded to 6.6.20 I had to uninstall and reinstall a couple of times. I also ran a windows clean install prog, but maybe something is left in the registry. I am not fully familiar with registries etc, and I am just guessing. I have also had nothing from Rosetta since February, although Seti is running fine. Rosetta still has work to be done as my laptop has still been doing work. Keep your powder dry Steve
5) Questions and Answers : Preferences : General preferences not being obeyed (Message 9327) Posted 19 Jan 2006 by Steve Jordan Post: I have set in general Preferences "Yes" to "ask before connecting". It is set as this in Einstein and Seti but it appears that Rosetta does not comprehend the change. I was under the impression when you set a General Pref as opposed to particular project prefs it was to be the same across all projects. BTW I am on dial up. I am going into Gen Pref via Rosetta to see if that works, but the poi9nt is there is a glitch in the system somewhere.
