You may want to keep an eye on the Problems and Technical Issues with Rosetta@home thread. Several users have reported the same problem there and one of the project team members has replied to say they are investigating.

Thanks for the reports!! We are looking at this now.

Yes, thanks very much. I'm not too worried.

Despite "Server Status" showing all green, my work can't upload and BOINC says servers are probably down.
There must be a break in communications somewhere.

The latest versions of BOINC are causing lots of different issues with many projects.

Each BOINC project periodically sends out new versions of their application. This would mean that there is an executable file that must pass through a/v or firewall protections. It also means a new name of allowed exception might need to be defined, depending on how specifically the exceptions are named.

So, that might be a reason why it would be working one day and not the next, and why I suggested it as a thing to check in to.

Understood. In the case of my security software I'd get a popup requesting permission which would have to be OK'd. I'm wondering if all software acts similarly or are people ignoring them.

More likely that an anti-virus or firewall has interfered with the executable in some way, or the permissions for the BOINC user are not sufficient to allow it to run.

Why would that suddenly be a problem though? I admit I'm only observing this as I haven't lately had any problems at all with Rosetta, but I just had to ditch Poem@Home because every single WU I ever got from them failed - computation error and all they seem to want to blame is Boinc, or me.

Is anyone working with the Boinc people if indeed it is a Boinc problem?

I find the entire 7 series bug-ridden with everything from computation errors to weird work-fetch behaviour and prioritizing of tasks. It also seems to interact with my computer more than 6, getting more slowdowns as a result.

Have now install 7.0.28 final but it seems slower still.

I'm getting the same with almost all of then work I receive. Let's hope .28 becomes final soon. I'm reluctant to install it now because the BOINC website warns it's unstable at present.

You're right. Mine is default but others may have adjusted theirs. Google can be of help there with UAC settings. I don't mind as long as I know what to do in future.

That's strange. It failed here when I tried without running NP as Admin.

That's a good idea to keep it there, dormant so to speak.

I log in as an Admin but Notepad still has to be run as Administrator in Vista or Win 7.

For those of use who had to alter the hosts file in order to get outstanding WU's to upload and then removed the alteration, will future uploads work OK?

Answering my own question, they do. One just uploaded from here.

OK regarding my previous post...I made the mistake of entering a '#' before the line....don't do that.

Posted this just in case anyone else is as dumb as me....;-)

Vista wont let me change the hosts file. I'll have to do some research on this.

Edit: OK opened Notepad as Admin and removed the read only status from hosts and added the entry, but my outstanding WU still wont upload and it's been over a week now. May have to abort it.

Anyone else having this problem still?

The server status page says everything is up and running so it shouldn't be happening.
