Is the source of rosetta open for us to compile our own clients?

Negative. We're at the mercy of the rosetta team to decide to either supply a 64 bit client, or recognize that we can run the 32 bit client. The current policy is to not recognize [i.e., refuse] any contributions from 64 bit computers.

Other projects do this successfully.

Can you point me towards a project that'll make it easy for me donate work?

Is there a timeline for when you guys will accept spare processor cycles from us AMD64 users? I keep seeing the statement that it isn't worthwhile to recompile the client. I find that questionable, but will accept it for the sake of argument. Does that mean you see no other way to allow those of us on a 64 bit OS to contribute? I can think of a few more:

1) Make a special app_info.xml available to ease use of the anonymous platform hack.

2) Better yet, automatically use the 32 bit client where no 64 bit client is available.

3) There's always the ia32 wrapper, which many of us already use...

Until then, i'll be looking into other projects...

We don't have a 64-bit version of the client as of yet. Sorry.... -KEL

I think "One Norse" is on the right track. I can accept that you haven't compiled a new client for 64 bit users. What is unbelievable is that right now you are basically refusing processor cycles from 64 users. At the very least, provide the info we need to make a customized app_info.xml, or even some directions to run BOINC in a 32 bit wrapper...

The 1st step is to check your Messages tab for any error type messages. If by chance are you using an AMD64 processor, you'll see something like: "Message from server, platform 'blah, blah, blah' not found." That would be because Rosetta hasn't bothered to provide us with a suitable client. In that case, you have to trick BOINC/Rosetta into thinking you have an 'anonymous platform' see: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/anonymous_platform.php
