I guess no one else ever had this problem ... anyway, I reset the project and it went away (the problem, that is).

I have just noticed that within the last few days the Rosetta screen saver just shows a black screen. When I move the mouse, an error window comes up saying that task such-and-such (the screen saver from the context -- didn't write down the name) has stalled with options to about, debug, or wait for it to run. This is on a Windows 7 machine. Screen savers from other BOINC projects work just fine. Is this a known problem, or is something kapooie with this machine?

OK, I know that one gets better thru-put not running BOINC screen savers, but this machine is in a "public area" and the screen savers are nice for public relations.

Apparently not. Or no one cares. Or whatever.

If you click the 'Projects' tab, then click 'Your Preferences' which will take you to your account page, then click the 'Rosetta@home preferences' link. Then, on your preferences page, click the 'Edit Rosetta@home preferences' link. Select the 'Target CPU run time' you'd like, and click 'Update preferences'.

Hope that helps,
Kerry

OK, you cleared that up for me - thanks. Now my question is: what, exactly, does "target run time" mean and what are the implications of changing it?

Thanks.

Hopefully it won't be long before new WUs come through, but at times like these it's worth tweaking "Rosetta@home preferences" available from "Your preferences" in Boinc Manager & increasing "Target CPU run time" from 3 hours if you can, both to extend the remaining work you have & to reduce the demand of new WUs when they come back on stream, easing the workload on the servers and ensuring everyone gets back running a little quicker.

Maybe I'm blind, stupid or both, but I don't see anything labeled "BOINC Preferences" in my BOINC Manager 6.12.34.

I just noticed that all of the WUs that have ended with "Computation Error" on my two machines over the past two weeks or so have a task ID that begins with "Aug20_needle_..." -- has anyone else noticed this?

Just wondering...

Newer versions on BOINC Manager suspends processing when CPU usage is 25% or greater by default I believe - make sure the jobs aren't suspended before canceling!

What would be the state displayed in this case? Still 'active'?

Jochen

BOINC is configured to use 100% of idle computer time. The WU is still running with indicated CPU time increasing.

Another post mentions stopping and restarting BOINC to 'cure' the problem - that works sometimes, sometimes not. The proplem with that is that the machine is located 'off site' in our computer club computer room and I administer it remotely from home. Due to time constraints, I don't log into it on a dayly basis so when it gets into this strange mode it can just sit there spinning its wheels and the display goes blank. We are trying to interest our club members to participate in BOINC projects and when they see one of our 'display' machines hung-up, that is NOT good press... So, I have suspended Rosetta and am running other projects.

I just aborted a WU that had been running 40+ hours and showed 92 hours remaining! CPU was running at only 13% capacity, so it appears that the WU was just sitting in some "do nothing" loop. I aborted another one that had run 20+ hours with 30+ hours shown as remaining. Normally WU take 3-4 hours on this machine. I had encountered this problem occasionally in the past, but now it happens with most WUs. I was told sometime ago that it is an "occasional" problem with Windoz machine, but now it appears to be quite common on my machine. I have suspended the project until someone can tell me how to fix the problem if it on my end or get it fixed if it is on the project's end of the pipe. I'm running BOINC version 6.10.18 on a 2.0 GHz dual core AMD machine running Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP3.

I am running Rosetta@home (along with some other projects) on four machines, three runing XP and one running Win7. Two of the machines have AMD 64 single core processors and two have AMD 64 dual core processors. The rosetta app is 'rosetta mini 2.05' and the BOINC version is 6.10.18. About once a week or so I will notice that the Rosetta WU running on at least one of the machines has been running longer than usual and using little or no CPU time. I abort it, and the next WU runs fine. I have not seen this occur with any of my other projects (climite prodiction, malaria control or world community grid).

I have five machines running rosetta (and other projects) and none have received any new rosetta tasks for the past couple of days. I tried suspending all other projects on one of the machines and still no new tasks. And I don't think that the server status page is being updated -- seems to have had the same info on it each time I checked it today. So ... is anyone running the store? :-)
