I'm having two problems.

First, there's no work.

Second, I'm running two computers and I have one task on each. But Rosetta isn't showing up on the other one.
OK. Since Rosetta isn't sending me any work just now,, there's nothing to show. But I probably would have been aware of this earlier, had I seen it on my other computer.

So, I think the first problem is more important. are others getting work? Is there some reason I'm not? What can i do/

Thank you.

Ross
Vbox (python) always available.
Traditional 4.20 work, intermittent. I see a batch every few days that is eaten up within a few hours.

If you can't do the python stuff, attach to something else, (e.g. WCG which has cancer work continuously and a bit of Covid) and leave rosetta asking for work too, so you'll get some batches of 4.20 when it comes.

Looking at the details of your computer its hard to tell if you have Vbox or not.
If you have Vbox then you need to check the details page about your your computer and make sure that Python is allowed. We discuss that in detail over in number crunching.

Another project to join up with is SiDock. Fast turn around tasks. Also protein folding.
Another one is QuChem. Also a protein folding group.
No high memory demands like Python here. You need around 2.5GB of memory per core if you going to run Python dedicated on your machine.
And for better help, come post your story over in number crunching. There are a couple of guys there that are really good at this.

You may want to reload BOINC on your 2nd system that is not communicating with Rosetta it's last connection was on 1 Oct 2021, 2:09:53 UTC. Both of your systems have fairly old versions of BOINC installed (7.16.11 from Sept 2020. The current version is 7.16.20 and can be down from https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

People deserve a proper break and I'm not inclined to demand they're dragged in to suit, what are essentially, hobbyists.
No need to go in, just do a remote login & restart. If it fixes it, good. If not, then it can wait till they do go in.

If it wasn't for people in these forums, no-one would've thought of this...

But people do and start coming out with stuff about "community" and "Rosetta is us", which I will always find head-shakingly bizarre #Cranks
Which is probably why Rosetta is such a small project - that very lack of community.

Right, it's the "community" that motivates people to join and contribute to projects and hang around.
Not even sure what "community" means in this context. Traffic in forums by a few dozen people?
The kind of community that, when tasks stop coming down in the middle of a Xmas holiday, immediately sees comments about the loss of good will? Some "community".
Is this some kind of joke I'm not getting? Even though I'm laughing anyway?
Astonishing self-obsession and lack of proportionality.

For a Small project it has a good base, not counting Users that do not allow data export, 32,000+ Users on 88,000+ Systems contribute daily.

I don't have a serious problem with it, if this project "take a break". It's not a problem for me to find something else to do. I'm running Folding@Home now - and not permanently. I will be back.

But I just think it would be nice to get some info about what is happening - or not happening. And why. Just something. Anything.

It would not take many minutes. Please?

Well TN-Grid and World Community Grid both have research work for Covid as a suggestion.

Since i'm out of work in this system i thought i'd give the new BOINC version a try.
Unfortunately it still requires user intervention to go from HTTP to HTTPS- detaching & re-attaching to the project and loosing all my historical stats stored locally on that system.

Exited BOINC, ran the new BOINC version installer.
After installing and running benchmarks it had in it's event log
26/12/2020 09:56:01 | Rosetta@home | You are attached to this project twice. Please remove projects named Rosetta@home, then add https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

So i detached & re-attached using the supplied URL from the event log as an existing user.

It looks like you have a pair of major player systems with big NVIDIA GPU's. Your current stat's show very good averages on Rosetta.

You are using a REALLY old version of Boinc, is that by design or you just haven't updated?
BOINC is just the manager (it's the project's applications that actually process work), and if something isn't broken, then don't fix it.
The only useful thing in the last few versions is that the latest one appears to support a project going from HTTP to HTTPS without the user having to do it.
I may eventually upgrade when i've had enough of the Notices about using an old URL.

You may want to read some of the release notes 7.6.22 forward to current again. The BOINC manager has also upgraded Library's that the applications use and GPU tables for newer GPU's as well as improvements in Task scheduling and Task time estimates. It may not be broke but it might be improvable.

its not even doing basic things like saying:
computation for task xyz finished
Starting task xyz
In that Manager, select Options, Event log options.
are file_xfer, Sched_ops and task ticked?

even with 5 tasks ready to report and a manual report (i dont know why they didnt report when finished)
That is the way Rosetta is set up. It contacts the Scheduler to get more work, but not just to report completed work (unless it is just after requesting more work & reporting completed work & it realises it needs more to meet the cache settings).

When task completes ... status in the Client changes to "Uploading" and a the Data is sent to the Project. Then the status changes to "Ready to report". Stat's for the project in the Client are updated after the next scheduled successful communication. BUT your data has already been sent and you have nothing to fear.

Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks.
Reporting 1 completed tasks
Requesting new tasks for CPU

even with 5 tasks ready to report and a manual report (i dont know why they didnt report when finished) there were no messages.

Doesnt leave me with much confidence that things are happening as they should

Get the Task numbers and go to the Project and look at your Tasks and see what the status of the task is,

Ive updated 2 clients to the latest version, both on WIN 10 64 bit computers

I keep getting the following:
11/04/2020 2:41:00 pm | Rosetta@home | update requested by user
11/04/2020 2:41:03 pm | Rosetta@home | Project requested delay of 7 seconds

and then nothing, it wont go back for new work by manually updating. there is no more communication after that.

will normally come back and say requesting work for the CPU
downloading x work units or no work from project.

my 3rd client which i haven't updated will connect to the server find when i click update and is able to get new work.

i feel like the server/boinc client isnt communicating properly.

I had the same concern regarding communications and status, but after looking at the system from my account from the Project side (a different project) WU's were being completed and uploaded and new work was coming down when needed by the scheduler.

As I've said before, my main concern is that it taints the results. Any results reported out of Rosetta@home have to be replicated because it all feels like preliminary work.

How exactly does the fact, that the project has not always enough work for everyone anything to do with the quality of the results? Apparently they got the amount of results they need for the current tasks and are not in hurry to release the next batch. That's their choise, we don't know why and I'm fine with that. The fact, that they don't generete more WUs than they need just to satisfy some people thinking only about their RAC, does not make it feel "like preliminary work", but quite the opposite. New work is available now btw.

Best not to ask questions. They've had the same issue which really comes down to their system and how they use it, but want the scientists to change the project to fix the issues. It has been suggested that maybe this is not the project for them but yet they keep coming back. Best bet, just ignore what they have to say as none of it is based upon any facts.

I agree completely. Rosetta is a fine, long standing, professional project providing a valuable resource to the scientific community.
