I see your points, and now that I have read them, I agree with them. The problem here is with R@h client's motivation. Many people donate willing and are fine with it. However, many people are just anxious for this pandemic to be over with and don't really understand the depths of the project. In my point of view, R@h lost a lot of potential users thanks to this gap in communication. The real issue here, is that thanks to this pandemic, R@h is probably getting more computational power than it probably will ever get. It behooves a project such as this to leverage this opportunity while this still is going on.
Just my opinion. Initially I targeted 1M Cobblestones as my final personal goal, now I'm going to 2M, and the highest motivational tool for this is the 'Gamefication' of BOINC with credits and ranks. Still, a regular update could cheer people up for longer periods.

About your comment "I don't know if Brazilians qualify as 'Black' in their ethnic qualification or if they are more ethnically Hispanic.". Brazil is the non-african country with the largest black population in the globe. Here, the word that is most used is "miscegenated", which I can't really pin down on any translation, except something like: lots and lots of people who are a total mix of many different backgrounds and whose cannot be labeled within the 0-1 spectrum. But yeah, since Brazil has a huge slave trade past, it is more than safe to say that the majority of the population has at least one black relative on the family tree.

I think most questions fall on how R@h lacks a better PR recurrent thread here in the forum.
I've seen so many people ask whether their WU are relevant against Corona or not, that perhaps it is less redundant for R@h team to develop a single thread with more constant posts. (In same style as Predictor of the Day)

I agree with you that we clients do not have the clear notion of whether the computation is going towards covid or general tasks. That is why I suggested the creation of a column that specifies the scope of the Working Unit, at https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=12133#98287.

I hope these tasks are also useful for covid, as much as it is for hiv and cancer. I also hope that the development team takes the motivational factor into account so they keep most clients active and willing. Let us hang in there!

I can't argue against your points, after all, voluntary computation comes with energy and availability costs.
Also, don't take it from me, I'm not a Health Researcher.
However, I have a strong belief that the cures for most complicated diseases go through the study of imune-responses to antigens and somehow they are linked. Perhaps, as commented previously here, the major number crunching has been lifted, but still, there may be more computational that could provide simultaneous insight between different viral diseases.
Finally, I have the same feeling as you regarding donating time towards the project. Initially, I have been focusing on the potential good and I also have been kept in R@h thanks to the 'gamefication' of credits. I posted my opinion on "For the betterment of Rosetta": I think an extra column in tasks menu with regards to what disease the WU relates would do much good for people's motivation at this point.
Have a good one.

Hi there.

I bring a suggestion for motivation on COVID-19 times and beyond.
It is very interesting -if possible- to add a column on BOINC Manager called "Reach" or "Scope", which informs a particular disease or conjunct of diseases that the folding task aims.
For instance:
Project | Progress | Name ... | Reach
Rosseta@home | 40,43% | PFU_rah_2982383 ... | COVID-19
Rosseta@home | 76,19% | RAW_res_10293u2 ... | ALL
Rosseta@home | 01,29% | QWE_rty_123456 ... | COVID-19 + CANCER

Something in this sense.
The main reason I suggest this is purely motivational.
Sincerely,

Breno.
