1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : How to enable GPU processing for my R@h wu? (Message 109158)
Posted 1 day ago by Profile Breno
Post:
Hi there,

I just registered a new machine to my account with a good GPU.
I've removed any limit towards GPU processing on my BOINC preferences.
However, I've been monitoring the resource use of R@h's work units and they are not using the GPU.
Is there something I need to do in order to enable GPU crunching?
If so, how do I enable the tasks towards my GPU 1 (NVIDIA GPU) instead of my GPU 0, which is the Intel(R) UHD Graphics?

Sincerely,

Breno Zanchetta

What I'm really curious is to know if R@h already has monkeypox workloads.

I have a question:
How long after the detection of a covid-mutation is R@h able to start folding against it?
I'm just wondering based on this new Omicron variant.

Interesting, you're suggesting it might be a sudo issue.
Surely it is not a disk space issue.
I was thinking that maybe it was a version issue or maybe network related.
However, the project was recognized and the tasks were scheduled, they are just not downloading.
Also, network is set to be freely used by the project, so it can't be that.
I'll keep checking.

I'm not sure if this issue is already known, but I decided to install boinc and boinctui on my five NVIDIA Jetson TX2 and TX1 boards and add R@h.
I was able to configure them into my account, but all boards freeze when the task is supposed to be downloading.
It is not related to absence of network, since I logged into the boards by ssh.
Does anyone have a clue on how to solve it?

Very informative.
The article dates the most recent study as in 2019.
Hopefully, the trials might be advancing.
Also, maybe a more thorough article might detect recent studies with new discoveries on KRAS.
Thanks for the post.

There has been a recent update on R@H's Twitter.

Finally some good feedback for us donors.
Let's keep crunching!

Maybe it has something to do with the recent SSL post they posted on the Forum News.
Maybe every client instance has to manually reset the URL like months ago.
I don't really know, but you are right, the project is in risk of losing a lot of WUs if they don't attest to this issue.
Keep the faith in this project!

Hi there,

I suggested that Rosetta implemented GPU support for a next version in late 2020.
The answer I got (which I can't find right now) was that in order to grant GPU support, they would need to rebuild many things from scratch, which would pretty much consume the same amount of time as to create a new project.
Honestly, I really think it would be great for this project if they granted GPU support for next versions.
But, since manpower and research time are not as abundant as we think, they prioritize more pressing issues.
Until they develop this new feature, let's stay crunching strong!

I would like to take a minute to thank everyone in Rosetta@home.
I'm just a guy who crushes some WUs, but this project is very important, and so is everyone.
Let's keep it up guys.
Be safe out there.

I suggested this a while ago, maybe the solution would be adding a new column on the client manager.
If no String is provided, shows None. Otherwise, the folks who generate the work units could assign a content such as: COVID, FLU, AIDS, CANCER, ALL VIRAL, SOME VIRAL, BACTERIAL, PARASITE, OTHER.
But, we also know that just as adding GPU towards the WU, this is not a trivial task, and it requires some changes.
Meanwhile, I also hope they include something in these lines.

Maybe someone already posted on this, but here it goes:
I have 4 nvidia jetson tx2 boards running boinc right now.
I noticed that tx2 is pre-configured to run with 4 CPU cores: 4 cortex a57 after OS flash
However, jetson tx2 has 6 cores, and after "unlocking" the extra 2 Denver2 cores, I found that they are not being allocated towards rosetta's WUs.
So, my question is: how do I inform to my Ubuntu's boinc that I have two extra CPU cores?
I already check the .xml files, but this is not trivial for me, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm sorry that I partially caused this from pushing the PR subject over and over on the posts.
However, the number of responses alone in this thread point to a positive aspect, since people are participating, which is the whole point of this Forum.
Thanks again for the update, and please keep'em coming whenever possible!

The joy of getting a reply from David Baker is great.
David and crew, a piece of advise: As the pandemic gets in ''decisive'' stages, I suggest you do a little more marketing for the project.
I think you should do something like: "Come on guys, where are almost there". Even if you are not quite there for anything.
The reason I say this is because, most people that give computation away are looking for ways to help to develop a vacine or anti-virals, but these people don't really count on the complexity of the entire project.
I could argue that it would be wise to surf the rest of this pandemic-collaboration-tsunami for the benefit of the project, because after it, probably, many people will just move on to something else.
Anyways, I will keep helping in any way i can, but with smaller computational power.
Best wished to D.B. and his team.

I don't really know if this is a persistent issue. I noticed today that some finished foldit WUs stopped at 45,78% during results upload transfers, they allow re-attempts to send results, but doing so manually causes a very slow upload even w/o any upload transfer limits. Anyway, just thought team R@h should know.

VERY Impressive.

I slept on this, and a general-wondering just popped up on my mind: Is it a possibility that these two lowest predictions by the same team (or users) in subsequent days might be pointing out the way towards the "small energy WUs"? Or is it just a coincidence?
I've noticed the discrepancies in the experiments nomenclature, but sometimes rare re-incidences may help in analysis.
