Sorry about the double post - for some reason the page didn't refresh, so I thought it hadn't posted. My bad - maybe an admin can delete the duplicate post?

Again, sorry.

I just made (3/28/2026 11:20:46 am EDT) a manual update for Rosetta, then checked the log. No errors, though of course there's no tasks available now (not sure if that makes a difference - I wouldn't think so, but...).

I did notice that there has been no Rosetta requests since the log was cleared early this morning at 3/28/2026 04:12:31 am EDT. That seems... wrong. I should have massive "debt" here, so shouldn't BOINC be making more requests, not... none?

Would it help BOINC to make requests more often if I increased the Rosetta resource share from 150 to, say, 250, or 350 or similar? You all are saying "make requests when task are available", but how do you do that without constantly watching the computer screen (which I can't do)? Or using some kind of command prompt macro that hammers the server every second or whatever, which I'm definitely not going to do (I do try to be a good BOINC citizen here).

The forums here are a treasure. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Hi,

As of right now, the "Rosetta" application, while having no new tasks, is showing 13,577 tasks in progress, with 829 users in the last 24 hours. How can that be? AFAICT, I haven't gotten a Rosetta task of any kind in weeks. How are people getting these tasks?

On my machine, the Rosetta project is set to a Resource Share of 150. It is not set to "won't get new tasks".

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Mark,

Thanks so much for that clear and concise answer! That was exactly the problem! I have now gotten 2 Python tasks. Happy Days are here again!

Hi,

I'm also all of a sudden not getting any Rosetta tasks. This just started a few days ago, maybe a week. Previously, I was running Rosetta tasks fine and getting new tasks pretty much continuously. The Server Status page currently shows around 5000 Python tasks available. Until this recent drought, I was running the Python tasks fine. In fact, there have been times recently when I only got Python tasks. Now, nothing.

Windows 10, with all latest updates (21H2, build 19044.1526). 16G RAM, plenty of disk space. Intel Core i5-3470. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060.

There are no Rosetta errors in the BOINC Event Log, other than some "Project Communication failed" from early this morning (Sunday, EST).

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

I have not done that, nor have I ever had to do it in the past. I'm running Win10 with all the latest updates. In Task Manager, on the second (Performance) tab, at the bottom with all the CPU info, it says "Virtualization: Enabled". Does that address what you are asking about? If not, do you know where in Windows I can find the info you are asking for?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am also now getting this message in the Event Log for Rosetta: "Message from server: VirtualBox jobs require hardware acceleration support. Your processor does not support the required instruction set." This apparently started in the last couple of days, maybe even today.

I have been running R@H for over 1.5 years, usually 24 hrs a day, with no problems, VirtualBox or otherwise. Could something have changed very recently with R@H to cause this? Does anyone have any idea (besides not have VB) what could suddenly cause this?

Thanks.

9) Message boards : Number crunching : sample app_config for Rosetta? (Message 101370)

Grant,

Thanks for your informative reply. My computer should no longer be hidden - I'm not sure if I originally did that on purpose or by mistake.

My Computing Preferences here on the web site are this:
- Store at least: 0.3 days of work
- Store up to an additional 0.3 days of work

However, my local Computing Preferences in the BOINC app are this:
- Store at least: 0.7 days of work
- Store up to an additional 0 days of work

And at the top of that BOINC page, it says "Using local preferences". I believe this means these setting override any setting on any project's web config pages. If I understand correctly, you are saying to set these "local" prefs to .01 and .01.

Thanks.

Thanks. That looks like that will work.

Now, how did you know that? I haven't seen that element in any of my other app_config files. Is there a schema or other list somewhere of the possible elements in an app_config file?

Thanks again.

Sorry, I should have stated that. I want to limit the number of CPUs Rosetta uses to 2. For some reason, lately BOINC has been running 4 Rosetta tasks at a time, often ones that are due later than tasks from other projects I run (WCG).

Up until 2 or 3 weeks ago, BOINC virtually always apportioned tasks more or less equally. But now it's wanting to run 3 or 4 Rosetta tasks almost all of the time (at least that I check). I consider my WCG project to be at least as important as Rosetta, so I don't want it getting neglected.

I know micro-managing the scheduling is supposed to be counter-productive, which is why I've waited this long to try to do something about it. But this behavior has persisted for a while now.

Thanks for asking for clarification.

Hi,

Is there a sample app_config.xml for Rosetta? If not, I think I need at least the <app_name> and maybe the <plan_class>.

Thanks.
