Hi

Since Jan 1, I’ve gotten 30 validate errors, only 6 successes and 20 or so waiting to run.

This in not a perfect answer, but a partial explanation:
From the chatter here on the boards, the current batch of WU's includes a large proportion that require "high memory" (i.e. >= 768 MB).

Your computer reports 1 GB of RAM, so you get those high memory WUs.

BUT, you have a dual core processor, so each task actually gets only 512 MB.

Default for BOINC is to use a max 90% of available RAM when the computer is idle or 50% when the user is active.

Vista seems to need more "headroom" than Xp.

SO, your WU's are getting at most 461 MB in which to work, and sometimes less than 256 MB

The workunit to which you left a link in your post was successfully completed by a computer that had appx. 1 GB of RAM, but was a single core CPU running Xp.

My reccomendation:

Until BOINC figures RAM on a per core basis, or until the Rosetta app is next updated, I would suggest you set your preferences to allow use of only one CPU.

Okay, I’ve chopped it back to only use 1 core, and I’ll watch it close for a couple days to see if that helps.

Thanks for the info and advice.

This one is fair rep of the bad ones. 130401418

I also run SETI on this machine with no problems.

Ideas, anyone?

Thanks

‘nother Vista issue is that sometimes (not always) when you re-start it’ll trash whatever wu(s) you’re working on. Be sure to click the BOINC exit tab before restarting. (Not just suspend or snooze). This forces a checkpoint.
