I understand, I think, that Trey is just trying to vent his frustration. I agree with Xaak that this might not be the correct thread to vent an overall lack of confidence type of thing. Maybe you should start a "lack of confidence" thread?

It does not matter what thread. I have brought up this issue in the café, the science and the crunching boards. The science is my favorite part but nothing is current except for the journals.

This is it I am out. I have suspended Rosetta and moved on to FAH.

You ain't just whistlin' Dixie !!!

Guess we're not important enough right now (as my Rosie RAC continues to deline from quadruple digits).
There seems to be a general lack of attention recently.

The very good communication of the 'good-old-days' seems far away lately :'(

I agree things are not getting better here they are getting worse. Back in October I tried to warn Rosetta project leaders that making promises that they ignore and not responding to the message boards is going to make us feel negatively about the project.
Thread

Here is another example of great user ideas being ignored. On May 27 2007 Speedy started a thread about if the Rosetta project could create a ServerStatus Work unit page like Seti's. And even after the Mod said "I think it's a great idea. It has been brought by others as well as being a way to motivate people to crunch more. Show them the work that's left to do, and progress being made."
No one from the Rosetta has done it or even responded to another polite request for an update on November 4 2007 by Speedy.

I think they either do not have the resources available or the resources available do not have the technical know how to make the jump to GPU. There have been to many questions not answered to assume (Ass U Me, I know) otherwise.

Then why where they able to do this multiproceesures rig for three hours of leased time? I think that is the article I am not sure?

So I got a new Macbook (2.0 Ghz + 2 gig ram) today and one of the first things I did was install BOINC. I added 3 projects, and the first time Rosetta connected I downloaded over 20 workunits. After completing one, it downloaded 3 more! The settings in my profile are set to connect every 0.1 days, so why such a backlog of work? I am worried because there is no way all these units will be completed by the deadline?

Seti and LHC@home did not download multiple workunits. On my other computer (Athlon XP2700+) my queue has 3 workunits of Seti and Rosetta waiting. Any ideas what is up?

What is your 'Connect to network about every' setting? (determines size of work cache; maximum 10 days)

Howdy,
if I got it right he said " settings in my profile are set to connect every 0.1 days"

Or did You mean something else ?

Connect to network about every is a different setting in the General preferences under 'Network usage'.

So I am thinking now to quit or lower my Rosetta resource share till this ignorance and intorlerance would be quit.

I just wanted to point out that this thread was not deleted, nor even moved to the Cafe. So I would have to say that reflects a degree of tolerance on the part of the project.

Also, whether or not the public participants in a project are intollerant or ignorant should not effect your decision on whether you wish to help Dr. Baker's team solve the protein structure prediction problem. Because there really isn't anything Dr. Baker's team can do about the actions of it's participants. They are just as entitled to express their opinion that SETI does NOT need computing resources, as others are to express the opposite view.

Yeh what he said!!!

i think the problem is that F@H got in first with the PS3, so they've got their flagship project now which shows off the PS3's power. However, I believe Rosetta changes more rapidly than the folding software, and the cell each have a limited amount of memory which might restrict rosetta.

Folding may be the first in the USA not the world. There is a Spanish project that had it long before Folding. If you go to the Sony PS3 page they have whites papers and video links to them and even Ibm hacking instructions.

Post:
I am considering buying an ATI x1950pro card (AGP - 512MB) partly for games and partly for F@H but I am confused about the power requirements. Does anybody know any more about this.
Currently I have a 430W Coolermaster PSU (see here )
It outputs the following current on the 12V rail, which is what I think the graphics uses...
12V – Peak = 19A, Continuity = 14A.
Also, does it require 2 power adaptors?
Any help would be much appreciated :)

I am a member of FAH and their fourm is full of great answers. Also the users there will point you in the right direction. Here is just 1 great thread for you about power usage there. Folding

Ps YOU SHOULD LOOK AT YOUR OWN TREAD IT HAS THE SAME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Jmarks, I understand the request for more information. But I have no knowledge beyond what you see on the boards to do such updates my self. So we will have to wait for someone from the Project Team to do so.

Thanks for responding quickly. Maybe you could remind the Team that it needs updating.

19) Message boards : Number crunching : Rosetta exe connecting to internet (Message 47845)

Post:
Hi

I know rosetta*.exe sometimes attempts to connect to the 'net directly for error reporting, but this causes me a problem because Zonealarm blocks the connection and awaits my input, without a new task being started and so lost crunching time. I always allow these requests but obviously there are new versions of Rosetta out quite regularly and so it's the same problem every time.

I guess the easiest fix is to allow any outbound connections to the bakerlab's IP range, but that isn't always where rosetta is trying to connect to - not sure why???

So far the ZA log shows it's tried to connect to:

75.126.120.197 (Avast which I use)
84.53.178.11 (Ripe net???)

Not sure why these are listed?

Anyway, what IP range should I allow outbound connections to to stop the prompts?

cheers
Danny

I saw this and copied it. I hope it helps.

ICS Settings:
............................................................................................................
On the gateway machine, do the following.
Click start -> run, type cmd and click ok.
Type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Find the connection you are using, and make note of all the DNS servers.
Type exit and press enter.

Double-click the ZA icon down by the clock.
Click firewall -> main, and click the advanced button.
Put the check in "this computer is an ICS/NAT gateway", and click ok.
Click firewall -> zones.

Add each DNS server to the trusted zone. To do this, do the following.
Click the add button, and then click IP address.
Click trusted, put in the IP address, enter a description, and click ok.
When finished adding all addresses, click the apply button.

Next, click program control -> programs. Locate Generic Host Processing.
Under the server column, for trusted, change that to a check.
Don't change server internet to a check, just server trusted.

If you have ZoneAlarm on the other computers, do the following.
Click the ZA icon down by the clock.
Click firewall -> main, and click the advanced button.
Put the check in "this computer is a client of an ICS/NAT gateway", and click ok.
...........................................................................................................................

Also double check to be absolutely sure you have the correct IP of the client machine in the Trusted zone. It may be different than before, so do an ipconfig/all command prompt.
