I am currently running version 5.8.16 and just came across this thread. After clicking on the link that was given for 5.10.7, I saw this message: (MAY BE UNSTABLE - USE ONLY FOR TESTING).

I think I'll wait before updating until they tell me it is safe to do so.

I successfully uninstalled CA AV this evening and installed AVG AV instead. So far it seems to be okay. I rebooted the computer and all seems well then too. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks for all the help, Greg, Tim and Danny!

AVG is available here: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Uninstall your current AV first though! (through 'Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs').

Hope that helps,
Danny

Thank you. I will try it and let you guys know.

IMHO it is not necessary to run any reg. cleaner right now. Your computer has a built in "oops what the heck just happened" button called System Restore (Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore). The process is safe and won't cause any problems with your registry and it is reversible. Try a time to rollback when the problem did not exist and go from there. You'll lose only programs that were installed since the last time a checkpoint was made (not any media, word files etc!)

I had tried that before. The only thing it does is take me back to before I installed R@H. Once I reinstall R@H, it starts all over again.

I think either my AV doesn't like something in the R@H programming, or I have something messed up somewhere that I have no idea when or why it happened.

I think you should try AVG antivirus though (uninstall all other antivirus programs first)--free and reliable. Post back if this does not work for you--Good Luck!

Tim

What is AVG antivirus and where do I go to read about it and/or install it?

Thanks for the help!

did you run any sort of registry cleaner?

No. I did not run any registry cleaner. Should I?

try ccleaner and if you can get a copy of errorguard that might help as well.
wait for the experts to give you some hints in addition to what i said.

Thank you for your reply. I will wait and see what else comes up.

Thanks again!

Wasn't quite sure where to post this so if it is in the wrong place, I apologize.

I recently installed R@H on my computer which is running Windows XP home. I have Computer Associates antivirus installed.

After installing R@H, my CA Antivirus said that there was an update that required me to reboot the computer to take effect. I did that, but then my antivirus real-time would not run.

For a temporary fix, I uninstalled the CA AV and reinstalled it, but have yet to reboot for the update.

Any ideas?

~ I have very little computer knowledge, but if you tell me where to go on my computer to get information that you need, I can manage it. ~

Any help would be appreciated. I would hate to have to uninstall R@H because my AV isn't happy.

Additional info: (Not sure if it's relavent or not) I have ZoneAlarm firewall... so far no problems with that.

Thank you.
