sounds like something is wrong. You've hidden your computers so we can't see whether there are any clues in the results that have been returned etc - can you unhide them?

Otherwise, try detatching/re-attaching.

Danny

is it boinc.exe or rosetta****.exe that is using 100% of the CPU?

rosetta comsume 100% cpu time. But the progress in BOINC manager shows 0.000%.

I'v install boinc on a remote computer under the control of netmeeting. But which confuse me is BOINC manager does not show any progress under the "Task" tab. All the progress are 0.000%. I'v set the option to "always run" and the usage of CPUs have reach 100% in Windows task manager. But it seems not work.

Now a whole day had passed but I could not found any reports post by this computer.

Why? It is a bug?

btw. I use "Service Install" and input the CORRECT administrator password.

Not familiar with Netmeeting, but there are other "remote control" options available:

You could try VNC.
BOINC Manager does allow remote control of other hosts http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/RpcAuth
BoincView http://boincview.amanheis.de/ is also great for managing remote hosts.

I installed VNC. But it does not take any effect.

Maybe it's not the fault of remote control software, but the BOINC itself.

Headache now.....

click here for your rosetta specific prefs, then change the third line down to NO. then the update prefs link.

it might not be immediate, but will happen

Found it! It is.
Thanks

Where is the option to hide computers? I found everywhere but no results.
Thanks.

BTW, Maybe it's the last time you can develop into my computers. :D
7) Message boards : Number crunching : Install 64bit OS can improve performance? (Message 40893)

Thanks. It's seems a good way to keep in 32bit OS until boinc have already optimized for 64bit.

Actually there is a beta release of BOINC supporting 64 bits. But I don't think a lot of projects has an application, that utilizes 64 bits. Actually I've only heard of one, and I can't remember which... ;)

The improvements from writing a 64 bit app is just too wee to be justified. A lot of apps could use some general optimization (like for SSE, SSE2 and so forth) first.

To me it seems like the 64bit systems right now is most about being able to support more than 4gb of addressable RAM.

:). 64 bit system prefer a large memory than performance.

I have a Celeon D 331 CPU which support 64bit operations. Does it able to improve rosetta performance after change OS from Windows XP to Windows XP 64bit ?
thanks
10) Message boards : Number crunching : Rosetta affect system performance ? (Message 40024)

Post:
When running rosetta at background, I found my 3D MAX rendering speed slow down a bit. From 31s to 33s at a simple scene.
It's about (33-31)/31 = 6% slower down.
This test was run on my PC which has Prescott 3.2G CPU, 2G DDR2 Memory. Two rosetta threads echo consume about 100MB memory.
I think it could affect system more seriously if you only have 512MB memory or less.

Newbie Q&A thread gives some general infomations about RAC. An URL "http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=RAC" is given at the end of the post. But I cannot visit that page. Anyone could help?

All the processing task return to 0% which have been calculated for hours after system restarted. What a bug!!

A lots of not powerful PCs , and some powerful servers(Intel Xeon MP 3.66G * 8, 12G Memory). All these computers are isolated, which cannot access Internet directly and indirectly. The only way exchanging data is USB device.

Now I feel like it is impractical to run BOINC on these PCs. But do these servers can be any use? Because there's few applications running on it, and the usage of all CPUs is close to 0%. I think it is wasteful.

thanks for answering my questions.
16) Questions and Answers : Getting started : PC without Internet connections can be useful? (Message 39949)
Posted 27 Apr 2007 by Profile opernal
Post:
It can be done, but is not trivial. You basically have to move files around. The Rosetta deadline to report results is presently 10 days, so it means moving files around at least every 10 days.

If you would like more specific ideas on how to go about it, I suggest you post to the Number Crunching forum.

Thanks!
Have post to that forum yet.

Both should go up. The average is like a speedometer, it is a rate of credit granted. The total only goes up.
