@All
If somebody has a better idea, i'm sure that C. Barrett will be happy to hear you.
He has also 512 mb of ram.
And if he dooesn't try, he will not know if my idea is the or a solution.

Ill be honest, this is the first time i had a stop on a switch in my 2 years of crunching so i had "assumed" that the programs were retained in memory on a switch. After reading your suggestion, i checked and lo and behold, it wasnt set up that way. hmmm.

I will switch it and see what happens. thanks!

A friend got the same error like you (but no problems with the other Boinc projects).
He has also "only" 256 mb of ram and all the wus ran errored.
He tried "Leave applications in memory while preempted? yes" and now, all is ok.

So when i saw your error message, i had the same idea.

We know all that a screensaver is not the "best solution" to run a project.
But if people who would like to get a screensaver don't ask, never they will know if it's possible or not.
Sure, "lack of a screensaver doesn't kill projects" but a screensaver will not kill also a project (i hope !)
David Kim said "We will work on adding a screensaver", so perfect.
This way, everybody will be happy. :)

easy... not everyone that notes there is non is automatically moaning about it. normaly you note things you see during beta stage.
there are live projects without screensafer (like predictor), so i agree on being not top priority, though it seems to be a "crowd pleaser" in the long run ;)

Predictor had a screensaver with the versions 4.3x.
They got some problems and they needeed to revert to the version 4.28 which has no screensaver.

I find it pathetic that some people are moaning about a stupid screensaver this project is in BETA and has better things to deal with at the moment than some cosmetic surgery on a screensaver.

Its going to get one eventually but im certain its going to be on the bottom of the developers list

Folding@home Beta has a screensaver.

We have no plans yet to add a graphics display other than the default BOINC client screen saver, which should provide the progress of the current workunit running.

Most unfortunate decision. Since this project takes too much time away from other valuable boinc projects and is not time competitive with World Community Grid and Folding@Home I will drop it as soon as my first data set is finished ( if that ever occurs!).

I'm not sure that i understand you very well about "no time competitive" but if you want some times about some others Boinc projects :
Seti@home Beta : 2 days 17 min (my last wu uploaded today)
Folding@home Beta : 30 hours or + 45 hours or + 85 heures !
Rosetta, at least for me, even with the 4.75, was pretty "competitive". ;)

@Hickory Explorer
A question : Dou you get this error when Boinc switches to an other Boinc project ?

We are working on a screensaver.

The heck with a screen saver,

I never saw the usefulness of a screensaver myself. They slow the crunching down and cause more headaches for many of the projects than they are worth in trying to get them working on everyone's completely different system.

Yes, they slow down the crunching but since you have the choice to run it...
And OpenGl (not bound to a specific architecture - cpu or Os) is more universal than D3D.

4.77 seems to be doing the trick alright! It's been paused, stopped (service), benchmarked and rebooted and appears to be able to take it all in its stride. Plus its a hell of a lot faster that 4.75!

the 4.76 was already faster than the 4.75 ;)

I'm hoping I fixed this in version 4.77, it is just a display issue, regardless.

That's ok now :))

About the "problem of 1 %" (when the wu dropped back to 1 %)

I ran 4 wus (with the 4.76) and i noted that the wu dropped back when it reached 75 % ;
if no problem the next step would be 83,33 % but this is not what happens.
I see in the progress (% done) 66.67 % -> 75 % -> 1 % -> 91.67 % -> 100 %
That seems to be a problem of display (?) because the wu goes on its work.
