Do you use the boinc client for f@h or the standalone program?

The boinc client is unannounced so alpha fruit is (probably) running the standalone program

@ Thales
What's your machine ? Pentium 4 ?
Client unstable (for you) ? how ? what errors ?

@ kel
The errors are probably "interesting" but it will be interesting to see the OS's and the Cpus if correlation

i have a Barton under Win2k and the CC 4.32 and i can't get an error (i'm lucky maybe) :
i can run the benchmark when i want
i don't need to leave the application in memory
i run Rosetta with LHC and Sztaki with Boinc switching easily

I finely got my first resualts in. This is after stopped my other project and disabled my Screen Saver.

I will start the other project to see if it starts the problem.

Good idea, disabling the screen saver and yes, try to start the other projet :)

Yes, though for The Pirate, this is only a "problem" of ID, easily to solve. ;)

Thanks for the information. We'll drop it on DK upon his return from holiday...

Although it is a bit off-topic from the primary thread of the discussion: in answer to the thread topic's question, "Questions and Answers" is the common location for the posting of questions about troubles with the client, webserver, etc... which can be found off of the main page, under the 'Community' section.

I think that seeing on the Same page Q&A and message board would be "interesting" (like Einstein)

There are all kinds of reasons for an error like that. Of the more common ones there are: device drivers, overheating, and over-clocking.

To enable us to understand more it is helpful to know about your system and what versions of the BOINC Client Software you are using.

And for This project, some machines need to leave the application in memory.

I have the same codes. I started this project on only a day ago. I have looked at the app ver. and relised that it is from the 22nd. Is this just a bad build?

I am trying it without any other projects running and no Screen Saver to see if it will stop the problem. I have to 4 hours left to see if this works.

If you have started this project since 1 day, you're using the 4.77, this is the last version.

did you try :
Leave applications in memory while preempted? yes

the problem is that perhaps you lost the wu when you switch to an other project, if no the wiki can help

Benchmarks have crashed my unit which was at 91%. Maybe a bug here ;)

çà a été signalé ;)
mais le fichier de log de BoincManager pourrait être intéressant pour les développeurs.
1er benchmark avec Rosetta ? manuel, automatique ?
utilises tu "Leave applications in memory while preempted? yes" ?
30) Message boards : Number crunching : can it really be so slow ? (Message 614)

Do not expect the % complete figure to move in anything like a linear fashion. It tends to move in jumps. It often appears "stuck" at certain percentages, 83.3% for example is a regular "sticking point". It is not in fact stuck, it suddenly lurches forward after a stage has been completed.

Time moves like that :
1 % -> 8.33 % -> 16.67 % -> 25 % etc etc -> 91.67 % -> 100 %
You have a first step at 1 % then 12 * 8.33 %
But you don't need 10 hours to do 1 % !

The next one I started 5 minutes ago reached 8.33 % just this moment.

This one seems "normal".

Hello.
I added this interesting project (one of three current protein projects, I think) to two of my computers.
One of these two is a P3 1 GHz, the other a P4 3 GHz HT. On the last one all works fine, but the good old P3 seems to stuck on 1% since 10 hours. The displayed speed is ca. 5 MFlOPs, which is realy slow. The same computer reaches over 600 MFlOPs with Einstein@home, so I wonder, why the rosetta application is so slow ?

Right, too slow specially when i read "but the good old P3 seems to stuck on 1% since 10 hours"
Can you suspend this wu (not abort) and begin a new wu ?

@ Doug Worrall
I can't help you really because i'm running a Amd cpu under Windows.
But i see that sometimes you succeed the wus.
I know that "life" here seems less easy for an Linux user but you may to try to run Memtest.
A problem of hardware would be a little stupid and can be (perhaps) easily resolved.
Try ;)

then you will detach from the project and go away!!!

I'm sure there is a hell of a lot of other things to do on a BETA project than make a pretty little screensaver

Obviuosly you're talking to me ?
Read again what i wrote, you need.

If some people wish a screensaver AND if the team is ok to add it, what's the problem for you ?

Rosetta still hasn't shown up in my sig. and I have been crunching for a while. The email address is correct and so is the cross project ID.

@The Pirate
Now this is not the cross project ID that you need to use BUT your user ID on BoincStats. ;)
You can find this number on your BOINC detailed statistics page and here you will find also the Url for your user signature graphic.

With a 1200 mhz AMD and 512 RAM, I just finished a WU with the 4.76 application in under 3 hours. A dramatic speed improvement over the 4.75 application which was averaging between 18 and 19 hours.

Downloading the 4.77 application now with a new WU.

Running 4.77 my P4 2.4 is doing them in about 2½ hours, don't know how this compairs to other CPU's of about the same speed. 4.77 is what I got with my first download, is this optomized for any certain instruction set?

Ray

With my Barton 3200+ (clocked at 2.2 Ghz), i need 1h 30 min on average to finish a wu.
