Of course, the sheduler should assign only one type of WU for host when the work is requested, not 8 different with 20 Mb traffic!

This makes a lot of sense. Does anybody know if BOINC allows this?

not sure if it is a out of the box feature but you might get in contact with the einstein@home guys, they have a system where you dl a larger datafile for which you get assigned multiple wu's that all work with that datafile

well, guess i was wrong here... ("chaperones")

sure thing beta testing and such is a nice concept (working as a software developer myself), but if you compare FaD and Boinc, please keep in mind (you still consider it wrong) that while FaD made changes for their project client, tested them and released them, boinc does features the seti folks never uses and other parties rely on, and if they run into a bug there, trying to fix them fast isn't the worst approach to keep the community happy. (e.g. trickles used in climatepredict).
so boinc would need to set up multiple betas/testprojects, which naturally would not reflect others people complex project apps. its not like they don't test the code at all, just that they miss the manpower for extensive testing.
i agree on the others that stated stay with you version as long as it works and your project does not require something newer unless you enjoy upgrading/a specific new feature (say e.g. when the statistics where introduced).

IMO there is no "right" way to software development, what works for one project can be difficult to do for another.

if you mean "in the same order" like for a a given mRNA, yes, it always translate in the same protein (given there is no error during the synthesis and a bit of simplified).

as the protein grows, it starts to fold, though it takes some time until it reaches its final form (there can attach different enzyms to the protein and modifiy it).
the growth happens like this: a mRNA is build in the cell nucleos, that is transfered outside the nucleos to a ribosome that encapsulate it (ribosume being different sub parts). begining from a start codon (3 DNA elements like e.g. guanine), tRNAs with matching anticodon (again 3 DNA elements, have to match --> bind with the codon) bind to the mRNS/ribosome. those tRNAs carry the amino acids that are then attached to the growing protein/start amino acid.

the already combined part has no specific mechanism i know off that would prevent it from folding, so it should start right away.

As Process Explorer shows in that image, I have paused in ram the following assortment: 3 rosetta WU's, 2 predictor WU's, one Einstein, I'm not sure who the Sixtrack belongs to (WCG?) and 7 seti at homes.

sixtrack belongs to LHC@home if you run that, sixtrack is also used in some benchmarks.

there was a serie of wu's that had a bad checksum due to some changes earlier this week, you propably saw some of those. the new ones are ok again, so you should not be too worried

if it is still status running I would give it some more time, predictor e.g. had wu's that would run to 102.x % and then complete.

i think vester wanted to point out the part that screensavers nowaday are more decorative than protective. most monitors go into power safe mode after some time regardless of the screensafer and even if not, burn-ins are unlikely with a somewhat modern monitor (example given in the wiki is the windows start button that is all the time in the place if you work on the maschine without being burnd in)

the newest boinc manager should no longer remove the app (rosetta) from memory for benchmarking. so depending on what client you are using this behaviour is normal. (crash by removing from memory = known; 5.1.7 should not remove app while benchmarking, if it doesn, i think that would be a bug)
17) Message boards : Number crunching : is the queue running dry ? (Message 3871)

Post:
That didn't happen this time. The connection never failed. It's just the project had no work. The first time it happened it immediately delayed for 24 hours. I manually updated several times over the next few hours and each time it delayed 24 hours. The fact that the delay time was in the scheduler reply file indicated it came from the scheduler, so I figured it was something that could be set by the project.

I have seen failed connections where it starts at a one minute backoff and gets progressively larger, but that is not what happened this time.

Charlie

oh, i see. (after rereading your original post again I could have concluded that you are not affected by the behaviour I described, my bad)
18) Message boards : Number crunching : is the queue running dry ? (Message 3863)
Posted 22 Nov 2005 by Profile FZB

the delay will increase with every failed connection request. i am not sure if the project can set a min value but normaly you will back off for a minute and when it fails again for 2 mins and so on... (would have to check code for exact time intervalls or how much random amount is in there, too). you can manually connect to the project though (not sure how to do this though with command line boinc)

they have it in their boinc forums: (# unread messages)
