Thank you for that suggestion. Although that didn't quite work and I've since moved to Ubuntu. I kinda got fed up of WinXP

Ooh, that's good news. :)

Btw, don't you wish for a setting under General settings, that allows you to make choices like: If cpu load is more than or equal to ____%, run Boinc at ____%. (Or just maybe, this suggestion is defunct if BOINC already possesses similar capabilities.)

Also, some layman explanations of the labels like Steps, Models and how some of this data is related to one another, would be great. :)

Actually, I'd like to suggest that Rosetta make backups of your data, everytime you shut down the program or once every ___ minutes. This is in the case that some data gets corrupted, either due to a computer crash or some other issue.

However, it can be difficult to get your suggestions heard by the developers, no?

And yeah, it'd be interesting to see what exactly they're working on. After all, staring at a bunch of graphics doesn't do much for increasing my knowledge. :p
4) Message boards : Number crunching : Rosetta status "Waiting for memory". (Message 38178)

Hmmm... I see! =)
It turns out that my decision to reduce the amount of memory for BOINC was unwarranted since the BOINC client doesn't use much memory at all.

I'd set the "max memory to use when idle" at 30% and "max memory to use when computer is in use" at 10%. Now, both values are set at 50% since this computer has 1 gb of memory as my computer often has up to 100 mb spare memory in worst case scenarios.

Thank you for the explanations. :)

Sorry for bringing up this old thread. So what should be the recommended actions one should take if a new task is stuck at "Waiting for memory"? I actually shut down all of my memory-intensive programs but nothing happened.

Ah, thank you for the reply but I'm actually trying to throttle several programs which haven't been working very well for a long time: extremely high cpu usage(around 90++% cpu).

I've tried reformatting Windows, diagnosing and trying various versions of drivers/software, even having extra cooling, upgrading my PSU, even cleaning the pc, etc. but most of my measures didn't even put a dent in the problem which seems to hit a number of softwares at random.

Oh well, perhaps I ought to post about this problem in a more relevant forum. But I was hoping to get some pointers, anyway.

Well, I've read a number of threads on Threadmaster: about how to apply parameters and such in the registry, etc., etc. And well, as a precaution, I also read up a bit about creating strings in the registry.

And so far I've been having a bit of a problem. =/ Threadmaster doesn't always work.

As of right now, I've listed Rosetta and a few other programs under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesThreadMasterParametersApplications

All strings were created as "Expandable String Value" and the "value" for Rosetta is set at 50 for now.

Thus, I've two questions:

a) Are the entries in the correct area? Or should they be in "Exceptions" rather than "Applications"?

b) Do I set the "value" for the string at "50" or ".50"?

In some thread on another forum, it was stated the percentage should be entered as a decimal value but eh, the poster put the value as "50" instead of ".50" so I'm not sure.

Thanks for reading!

All right, I'm a new user and have in fact read several threads regarding the 1% issue. Thus, am I right to assume the following? Even if a process has been at 1% stage for some time, as long as the figures keep moving in the "Graphic interface", everything is fine and normal?

Thank you! :)
