(Message 35255)
Posted 22 Jan 2007 by ![]() Post: I'm absolutely thrilled with what I just read here: James Thompson, January 22: During the protocol we're currently publishing for our structural prediction studies, we actually test for structural convergence of low energy models. Put another we, if see 20 / 50 low energy predictions with very low RMSD to each other, this would be a very high confidence prediction. This makes me happy because of what I wrote on November 6: I think the best indication would be some sort of RMSD calculation between the lowest energy predictions. If all or most of the lowest energy predictions are starting to look pretty much the same, then you have something. I should be some kind of methodology consultant or something. |

t flops
(Message 35253)
Posted 22 Jan 2007 by ![]() Post: My guess is outside factors. The t-flops go up when other projects are out of work and back down when those projects get going again. It also seems like people get excited whenever there is some kind of media coverage for the project or BOINC in general. All kinds of things make it go up and down. "But there are more users than there were then!" True, but they might be less active than they were at other times. People might be giving bigger resource shares to other projects or turning their machines on for shorter times, etc. |

Posted 12 Jan 2007 by ![]() Post: I got up late yesterday and had to hurry off to work. This left me with no time to brush my teeth. I decided to compensate by gargling a shot of rum as I walked out the door, thinking that it would kill whatever nasties were trying to lay claim to my mouth. I've told this story twice now, expecting praise of my ingenuity, but have thus far received only laughter. |
