Howdy,

I have had a sporadic problem with the graphics locking up on my Intel Pentium D machine. It only happened say 2 or 3 three times a month. [Since version 5.54] It did not seem to be an issue since I found that if I went to the task manager while the graphic screen was frozen, my desktop would appear and I could move the mouse down to the Boinc Icon right click and exit out of Boinc. This stopped the program gracefully without corrupting the data. I then could restart Boinc and all was well for a week or more. However since version 5.59 has been out the frequency of the freeze has increased significantly. Now a week and some time a couple of days go by and I find the graphics frozen. The crunching for rosetta and E@H seem undisturbed. Any Idea's?

who?

Thank you for your post. I will look at the site you mentioned. I too am here to fun and do not want to interfere with that for anyone else. Please continue to see how far you can push the RAC envelope for a single machine :-)

who?

I have been following this thread very closely, and I would like to ask you a couple of comparison questions. I do not want any info you don't feel comfortable in offering. I would be happy to post an e-mail address to reach me if you rather not have the question asked here. Or you can simply decline and no worries.

For comparaisons, you have Anandtech.com ... I am not here to do marketing for my employer.
I am here to have fun, without giving away any of my employer intellectual property and secrets.
If you need performance informations, in a business matter, i ll be happy to connect you with the right people.

When I speak about SSE4, it is because the intruction set is public, i am very carefull to do not give away any strategic information, here or by email.

Thanks and sorry Feet1st,

Obviously I did not research the error very well. For the time being I switched rosetta to another machine I have that has previously been crunching for E@H only. This server has BOINC running as a service. No Graphics. I did not want to disable the screen saver on 323911 because I run both E@h and R@H, and I like the E@H Screen Saver Graphics. It would be nice to be able to disable the graphics by setting the graphics resources to zero, or an enable or disable option.

I'm sure I am forgetting something important, but it is not comming to me at the moment :-(

If this is a problem, can I disable the graphics for this computer entirely?

You just forgot to check in to whether this is a known problem :) It is... a known problem. Recommendation is to set your Windows screensaver to NONE (or anything other then BOINC), and to not use the "show graphics" button in the BOINC Manager.

Graphics randomly Lockup my machine.

I have recently had two occasions where I came into my office in the morning and found the rosetta screen saver blank white, and not responding to the system. Had to End Task to close the screen saver window. In both cases BOINC reported that Rosetta was still running after the closing of the window. The compute errors listed below are on the same days as the screen saver lockup.

Computer: 323911
Jan 8: wu# 49950707 and 49930323
Jan 5: wu# 49345172

AMD Athalon XP 2700
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 4
1 Gig of Ram
ATI Radeon 9250 256 meg Video Board

The machine is located in a temperature controled server room and is on a liebert UPS. The motherboard, fans, memory, and running cpu temperature are ok.

I'm sure I am forgetting something important, but it is not comming to me at the moment :-(

If this is a problem, can I disable the graphics for this computer entirely?

Thank you FluffyChicken for your help and patience. I did join up with Ralph@home, and even have some work done.

I don't have an explanation for the errors I was receiving, but it would seem that in the process of testing my machines, the problem was resolved. Both machines have been crunching well with out bad results. Hope this continues to hold true.

Thank you and I will look in to Raph@Home. Full-Force1 is my Athlon 2700 with 1 Gig of Ram, ATI Radeon 256Meg Video Board running on win2k sp4, and the machine that receives the most errors. Also consistently claims more credit than awarded. Following advice from team members I ran Memtest-86 on the box for the better part of the day and received no errors. Also verified that CPU, Motherboard, and HDD temps were not an issue.

The Pentium D Dual core box (Force1 I did not realize others did not see the names) has 2 Gig of Ram and NVIDIA Quadro FX540 Video board running on win xp x64 sp1. It had errors as well but not nearly as much or as consistently. Also consistently claims less credit than awarded. Both machine have the screen saver and graphics, and are left at the defaults of 10% CPU time and 10 Frames per second. Both machines are also on Liebert UPS's and the log files have not shown any power issues.

What really concerned me was that if the problems are caused by my machine, I did not want to be sending in repeatedly bad results.

Howdy all,

I am new to R@H. I have noticed that I seem to be having consistant problems with error's, especially with one particular machine. [FULL-FORCE1] But have noticed errors on both. I am running the stock Boinc and stock R@H application, is there some diagnostics I can run to determine what the issues are? :(
