Actually, I have 3 Rosetta tasks running right now. True, most of my work is for World Community Grid. But there's some Rosetta.

Is Rosetta@home still running? I've been a member of this project for years, and I'm not getting any tasks. I looked at my Projects page and it says "Won't get new tasks." What did I do? How do I get new tasks?

Does anyone realize that this message board is being spammed by advertisers? I'm really tired of getting a notice that there's a new message on the board and coming in to find an ad from DecorChamp about the joys of home decoration. Quit wasting my time.

I have a question about VirtualBox. I just got this message:

rosetta python projects needs 11885.31MB more disk space. You currently have 7188.18 MB available and it needs 19073.49 MB.
2/5/2022 8:23:24 AM

The box this is running on has a solid state C: drive which currently has 90 GB free of total 222 GB. The E: drive is a regular hard drive, 1.81 TB, which currently has 1.41 TB free. This looks like an allocation problem, there's plenty of space on both drives. Is there something I can configure to clean this up? Or is there some way to configure VirtualBox to work on the E: drive, which I use for data? Now that I have VirtualBox installed, I have NO Rosetta tasks running.

Thanks for the explanation; I'm installing BOINC with VirtualBox right now. For the record, the current version of BOINC is 7.16.2. I usually prefer to have the latest version; will BOINC automatically upgrade itself? WCG never has.

I have Steve Hoffman's problem too - I get messages about Rosetta, but I have World Community Grid installed instead of BOINC. If I don't have VirtualBox installed (and I don't), how can I have 8 active Rosetta tasks in various stages of completion? The Rosetta URL I have is http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta - where do I change it? Do I need to change it?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've looked in my configuration online and I don't see a setting that clearly controls the amount of time I'm willing to wait for new tasks. Where should I look?

I'll certainly check into World Community Grid if I can run that from BOINC.

I haven't got the details everyone else has, but I too have a Win7 64-bit system running Rosetta@home, and I too am getting these silly pop-ups. They started a day or so ago which is probably when I downloaded 3.43. I'm subscribing to the list so I'll see when (soon, I hope) we get a fix.

I can't say how long it's been, but I noticed this morning that my CPU was running at only 3% and when I checked Rosetta there were NO tasks running. I told it to update the project and it got zero new tasks. The project news feed says they took the project offline on Dec. 23rd to make modifications to the SAN - any ETA on completing that project??
13) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Target CPU run time Option (Message 64567)
Posted 21 Dec 2009 by Profile hedera
Post:
3hrs is now the correct default, but I can only change the FAQ's that were authored by mod.zilla to make a revision.

The target is up to you. Longer runtimes mean less frequent interaction with the servers, which means less overhead for the project, and less download bandwidth for you. I generally recommend a target runtime roughly equal to one day of runtime. If your machine is on 10hrs per day, I'd make it somewhere between 8 and 12 hours. But that's just my personal preference, trying to strike a balance between getting results back ASAP, having enough work on-hand if the project should have an outage, and showing signs of progress by moving through work units.

Thanks for the explanation; I've set it for 8 hours, we'll see how that goes.

Post:
I have a question about the Target CPU Runtime defaults. I read the FAQ, which says that the default target CPU runtime is about 8 hours. But when I checked my own preferences (on which I usually take the defaults), I had no CPU runtime amount chosen, and the note next to the dropdown list suggested that, in the absence of a choice, the default was about 3 hours. Which is correct?

Also, I have a new computer with a quad core chip, which I run all day and turn off at night. What would be the best runtime default for that?

I've had 2 Windows error messages in the last couple of days from Rosetta. This is on a Win XP Pro SP2 system. The last one was this morning. I looked at my results today and this WU has crashed at 15:13:50 UTC:

2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431

Checking my message log, I found these messages:

03/03/2009 6:00:54 AM|rosetta@home|Restarting task 2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431_2 using rosetta_beta version 598
03/03/2009 6:01:41 AM|rosetta@home|Task 2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
03/03/2009 6:01:41 AM|rosetta@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

Identical messages repeated until 7:12 AM when I got this:

03/03/2009 7:12:14 AM|rosetta@home|Computation for task 2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431_2 finished
03/03/2009 7:12:14 AM|rosetta@home|Output file 2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431_2_0 for task 2p64__BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-2p64_-native_frag2__7622_431_2 absent

If you look at the task details for WU 209583003 on computer 272841, you'll see this error followed by a dump:

I just realized my CPU usage was essentially nil, and when I checked BOINC, the message log shows it's been requesting tasks from Rosetta all day (since 8:15 AM local) and never gotten any tasks to work on.

I'm running BOINC Manager 6.2.19 on Windows XP SP2, with 4 GB of RAM and a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 CPU. I've never seen this problem before. Every request for tasks gets this:

01/03/2009 10:23:32 PM|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 60480 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
01/03/2009 10:23:37 PM|rosetta@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

Is there something wrong with requesting 60480 seconds of work? Do I need to upgrade BOINC Manager again? Have you no tasks available? Help?

I was away for the weekend and shut my BOINC manager down after setting Rosetta to "no new tasks." I gather that the Rosetta host crashed while I was gone. However, that was 2 days ago (11/14) and as of this afternoon Pacific time (11/16) I can't connect to Rosetta. Has something changed? My password is the same as it was and I just logged in with it. I've been connecting to

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta?

Should that change?

Disconnected for no reason

I'm not sure what's going on: my BOINC manager system tray icon shows "not currently connected." It was working last night. I brought it up and tried to attach the project using my usual password, and got "BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client." I actually went to my account and reset my password and tried again - no luck. Help? What did I do? What do I do now?

WU 173161638

This one seems to have completed correctly on another computer.
