Hello,

I am new to the rosetta@home and Boinc. I see that there is a screen saver to show the work being done while Rosetta is running. However I do not seem to have that screen saver as part of the Linux version. Is there something I am missing?

Try this thread.

Or use the site search (try "Linux" and "Screensaver" or "graphics").

The short answer appears to be "Youll have to wait until we find time to write some Linux graphics code. Though I would have thought that with a Mac OS X program already done, the adaptation to Linux would be a relatively minor task.

Wow! Going on 2 years now and something as basic as a screensaver is still not included. I bet if one were included, it would attract a lot more people to the project. That whole pesky honey/vinegar proverb and all. Especially with people dumping Windozes for Ubuntu as they are, someone should consider upping the priority of it.

Personally, I find it bothersome that Mickysoft gets to have all the eye candy from the project while the rest of us gets the middle finger. So sad really. :<

Is it really true that as of now (30 June 2008) there is no
screensaver or other way to display the Rosetta output under
Linux?

I would also vote for a screensaver in Linux. Being able to see what is going on is what just drove me back to join distributed computing again. It makes you feel like you are involved with the project and actively doing something, that among other things provides something back to the user.

It would be good to hear someone is actively working on this.

hmmmmm what I resent is that no one or where overtly made it clear
the screensaver is not supported . that is bad manner in such a volunteering
effort. It is NO oversite. After looking back through Rosettas pages
it was even implied it was IMhO. Unfortunatly I resent it. After having
felt so good about helping out. Probably has something to do with locale.
Washington is windblows country and the university is certainly a benefactor
of Bills. Im gonna boink rosetta off of my machines.....:P

I just decided to join this project and while pretty graphics aren't essential, they are nice. It seems that I can definitely "show graphics", but that's only in a window, not in a screensaver. It's not a major issue to me, but at the same time, if it's working in a window it should surely be trivial to make it work as an Xscreensaver, so it's mildly annoying that there seems to be no option to do so. Hopefully there will be one soon, now that "show graphics" works. On the plus side, this project is great for seeing how hot my CPU can run!

I would not mind a linux screen saver to got with the program either... even if it just blacked out and floated the time around.

Thanks

Still no graphics?

Not on linux/unix. I managed to add xscreensaver (there is source code for it) but it only shows "loading screensaver.." so i think it's lacking files for the actual screensaver.

Graphics button is greyed out.
