I reject any tasks that don't have a label covid-19 and in recent days for some reason they are almost absent

I've seen that too.

Meanwhile, I have switched some of my machines to projects where I can choose COVID exclusively. For me personally, it's important to use my computational power for fighting agains COVID.
As soon as I can do this here at Rosetta, too, I'll be glad to come back. with all my computers.

What such projects have you found? So far, I've found:

BOINC:

World Community Grid want more people to do this.

https://join.worldcommunitygrid.org?recruiterId=480838

Make sure you enable the Open Pandemics work, which will be mainly for COVID-19 at first.

You should choose settings that allow doing other types of work if the COVID-19 work runs low.

I've seen, but lost a link to, a BOINC site that assumes you can follow instructions written in Spanish.

One more BOINC project that has finished its COVID-19 work and does NOT want to be widely advertised.

Non-BOINC:

Foldin@home main

https://foldingathome.org/

Folding@Home Forum (separate account creation required)

https://foldingforum.org/index.php

Quarantine@Home (GPU only for Linux)

You can add TN-Grid to the Boinc Projects doing Covid-19 research:
http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/

and Ibercivis is also a Boinc Project doing COVID-19 research too but they have been down for a few days:

I found the lost link. Not very useful unless you can follow instructions written in Spanish.

https://boinc.ibercivis.es/ibercivis/

TN-Grid is the one that does not want to be widely advertised - little spare server capacity - and appears to have run out of COVID-19 work.

We have some BIG NEWS: Researchers @UWproteindesign
have succeeded in creating antiviral proteins that neutralize the new coronavirus in the lab. (These experimental drugs are being optimized for animal trials now)

THANK YOU for helping out!

I just read that US buys up world stock of key Covid-19 drug remdesivir.

What will happen if bakerlab will be successful? Everything only for Americans?

So folks, I hate this form of national egoism, I'm out here at Rosetta. Sorry!

Actually, remdesivir was developed by an American company (Gilead Sciences), so it is already here.
It is not obvious to me why they should not sell it to whomever they want.

There will be plenty for other countries later, but if they want it early, they can support their own companies in developing it.
Much of any drug development is supported by the U.S. taxpayer in testing, research, etc.

And other countries are not being shut out at all.
Countries in the developing world will get the drug at greatly reduced prices through generic manufacturers to which Gilead has licensed production.

But you are of course welcome to start up a project like Rosetta too if you want.

Maybe you like to read this:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/30/us-buys-up-world-stock-of-key-covid-19-drug

You wrote, "Much of any drug development is supported by the U.S. taxpayer in testing, research, etc."
So, if the support of crunching time donated by international users is not important, we can leave it be. I'm going to do so.

Suit yourself. I think if you look at the statistics of any project, you will find that much more of the crunching is done by Americans.
If they all came home, I don't think Europe would gain. It seems you just want something for nothing.

Maybe we should find the cure first before we start fighting over it's distribution?

Keep crunching!

Don't make your evaluation on a small sample size and people won't do the same in return, there are both good and bad apples in every bushel! Hitler being a mass murderer does NOT mean all Germans are bad people, in fact most were afraid of him more than supported him. China is now experiencing 2nd an 3rd waves of infection and saying it's from people returning to China from other places and bringing it back with them. This IS a global problem and if you or I solve the problem EVERYONE will benefit!! Rosseta has promised to make the results publicly available to anyone that wants them, that's all that counts.

So folks, I hate this form of national egoism, I'm out here at Rosetta. Sorry!

Possibly the dumbest thing I've read today.

First a solution has to be developed/discovered. That's what's being worked on here.

Any solution will become available to <any> manufacturer in <any> country.
Manufacturers will create a product and make whatever commercial arrangements they decide.
There will not only be only one manufacturer, nor will there only be one customer.

That you think there will only be one is something you can think if you want to, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the work done here anyway.

The other thing is that Remdesivir is ONLY helpful for pt's in the advanced stages of dieing and either on or ready to be put on a breathing machine, it is NOT a vaccine toprevent people getting COVID. And as for the US buying up all the stock they had that is a win win for the drug companyas they now have a HUGE influx of cash that they can spend on anything they want too. To me it means the US is preparing for a LARGE rush of COVID pt's and is stockpiling what they can to keep them alive. I would bet they also bought a bunch of PPE stuff as well as without it the Dr's can't treat those infected pt's.

You hit on the most important point that people doing research often miss. If you GAVE a vaccine recipe to the drug companies, they would not necessarily use it, unless they could figure out a way of making money on it.
It costs money to produce and distribute, and given the (very) risky business they are in, a reasonable premium to the shareholders for their efforts.

The lack of an incentive is why there are so many drug-resistant bacteria, as you probably know. There is not much incentive to create new antibiotics.
If the governments manage to destroy the incentives (or not create them to begin with) for the vaccines, we are doomed.

I've tried digging into more detail on the work being done by UWproteindesign on this particular potential breakthrough that was mentioned, but I can't seem to find any detail.

Does anyone have a link to this specific item which provides more detail on this particular piece:
