Hi. Just added one more computer to my "farm" last week. I was lloking around on the site and noticed over 11 instances of this machine while looking at "My Account". How can I solve this? Thanks in advance |

Hi. Quote from Technical News section:
As above, the merge function is currently disabled - it will be re-enabled when they upgrade the database software. |

How can I solve this? Step 1, Read the FAQ on the subject. Step 2, search to see if others are having the same problem. Step 3, review their posts here here ...there are more on Ralph I believe as well. Step 4, wait patiently. When they update the server code to the next level of BOINC, I believe it has the necessary corrections in it that will allow them to enable the function again. In the meantime, it does no harm. You get all the credits you have coming, and there is no conflicts caused by them. Thanks for the help! I wasn't concerned (too much) about credit. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't harming the system. Thanks again |

Last Question: Is there a way to stop this from occuring? It seems like every time this host contacts the server it generates a new instance. |

Last Question: It SHOULD only create a new host when you attach to the project. So, unless you detach or reset the project or something extreme like that, you should only get one host... having said that, I did note a point in time where it seemed each of my 3 hosts seemed to cut a new host ID. That was around March 17. I'm not sure what happened at that time to cause the new hosts to be created. You've selected the preference not to show your computers, so we can't see when each is created etc. Check the messages tab closely when you connect and see if there's any message that might indicate a new host is created for some reason. Which version of BOINC are you running? What Operating system are you on? You mentioned you have other machines. Is it just this one that seems to generate a new host each time? I checked the message queue and there are no additional messages being generated when I connect to the project. I am running BOINC version 5.4.9 on a Windows XP machine with all the latest Microsoft patches. I haven't had this happen to any of the other machines that are currently working on BOINC projects. I'll change the options to show my machines as soon as I post this. If there's anything else I can do to help diagnose this, please let me know Thanks again |

You've got me. Some of the hosts don't even appear to have received a WU. I'd suggest two things. Firstly, wait to see if someone with some other ideas comes along here. If you don't hear anything in 24hrs or so, I'd suggest you open a new thread here in "Crunching" with a different title. Something like "new host ID generated daily" to differentiate your question from the similar issue (which I'm sure you're eagerly awaiting too) of not being able to merge hosts. For some reason your computer is attaching and detaching instead of just reporting in. I would expect this is some kind of network issue on that machine. You might making certain the setting "Disconnect when done" in your general prefs is set to "NO". That setting should not have any effect unless you are on a modem, but if it is set to yes and you are not I suppose it could cause some unusual effects. The setting for disconnect when done is set to "No", so no change there. This machine is cruching for three other projects as well. Two of the other projects are having no problem. The only issues I'm having are withe Rosetta and Boincsimap. Maybe I should detach and then reattach to bith these projects and see what happens? |

The only issues I'm having are withe Rosetta and Boincsimap. I've seen this problem when installing BOINC on a network drive - for me I think it was an issue with the permissions on the network folder. In the messages tab what error are you getting? |

I'm not getting any errors in the message tab. I just keep getting this same machine regestered as a new machine over and over again. |

Are you using a Boinc Account Manager like the one at BoincStats...... I've read about an issue with other projects where a new host was set up everytime the host connected to the project |
