1) The host merge function is now much better with the latest version. It doesn't get confused by changes in the "[x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7]" that happened over the past few versions.

2) There is now a "Mark all threads as read" function available for the forums.

Can these upgrades please be implemented?

NOT until the opt-out option (defaulted to NO) is available!

Just wait for Misfit and company to start spamming everyone to join their teams.

Discussion of PMs and lack of opt-in/out. Currently the only way to opt out is to put someone on "ignore", but that will require you to receive an unwanted PM before you can put the sender on ignore, which is the same ignore for forum messages.

Nemesis n. A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent.

So...setting aside the whole PM issue, can we add the original 2 items requested?

WTF!?! Did you see the whining going on in that thread?

Just disable PM globally and if/when the next release gives these clowns what privacy they want, then upgrade/enable it then.

Not exactly open to suggestions. Yes, I found that out for my self.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud. Just reading that other thread made me mad. I feel they are nit-picking on details that otherwise we could move forward without.

Like I said, earlier, the PM functionality is off-topic for this thread anyway. I am asking for:

1) The host merge function is now much better with the latest version. It doesn't get confused by changes in the "[x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7]" that happened over the past few versions.

2) There is now a "Mark all threads as read" function available for the forums.

Well, when they update the server software and forum software, PM's will come as well ;)

Me PM = Good. I've already used it to good use.

If people break the rules of PM, just hit the X and let the admins take care of it ;)

Anyways, yes ti would be nice to see some of the new and improved functionality make it's way here. Let them settle the new NAS server in first though :D Say give them 2 days , muHAHAHAHAHAHA
I would love no. 2) also.

lol, some people are stuck in the mud. It's a very useful function what you're asking for.
To answer a few questions there.

- Put a tick box in the 'Participants' page or where deemed necessary as direct links can be given to it.
Tick the box (opt in) hit Save.
This then shows only the needed preferences, no personal info, just a populated table of the settings and the computers that use them.

What's wrong with that.

Much easier than all the other methods, disregarding the fact .xml files don't open in notepad by default.

- Nor reason they cannot design a way for it to pick up and dshow which prefereces are overriden locally (actually this would solve a lot of other support headaches)

- Yes sorry for drifting off topinc, I guess the mods need to spilt the posts off.

Bump! Please, at least give us #1. My comp stats are completely messed up because this functionality is broken.

Merging computers will NOT increase or or otherwise change your granted credits. You'll have the same credit before and after merge. Why is this an issue?

A BOINC forum software upgrade will bring ALL the new features, including the wrongly implemented PM feature. They can't just throw in one chunk.
Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :)

Really? I was hoping for magic fairy credits. Dang.

Why is this an issue?

I manage many machine remotely. These machines crunch for ~50 projects each. I need to be able to see if they are having issues. Many of these projects are alpha/beta, and need attention. The only way to do that is to watch how doing credit-wise day-to-day. If each of those machines credits are splayed across 20 lines, it's impossible.

If you have remote machines running FIFTY projects, many of them alpha... isn't that sort of asking for trouble?

Those 16 active hosts (maybe 12 unique PCs) attached to this project must be overwhelming to keep track of. Must take - what? - whole minutes to check up on them?

BAM should ease looking I would have thought.
Or just remote into them with BoincManager or even better for what you want BoincView. Look at them directly.

It would, if each machine wasn't listed many times over, with each showing different slices of the data.

My main machine is a Mac. BoincView is out. Also, looking at a machine right now, doesn't tell you the same things as looking at it over time.

Clearly there is a problem with the server software. Let's fix it.
