Just thought I would say "Hi" to the rest of Team Canada, and other Edmonton Oiler fans. Normally I am an Ottawa Senator's fan, but that changed last night. Now I am cheering for Edmonton. I would really like to see the Stanley Cup kept in Canada for a change.

Cheers!

PS: I crunch exclusively to Rosetta.

Just checked the top teams for Rosetta, by next week we should be in 9th at this pace. But I have no intention of the pace.
GO CANADA GO!
Time to Crank It Up

Sorry about the Sen's but they're a young squad, next year or two it might be me hoping for them to bring home the glory.

"I heard on the news the riot squad had to be called out after the win ;-)"

That was for tieing the 2nd round series, I'd wonder what this city would be like if they won the cup. You should have heard the noise after Sunday nights game in the neighborhood and I'm not even near the arena or Whyte Ave.
GO OILERS GO

Also looking for good tunes from up and coming groups any suggestions?

Hi Rog,

You look quite young to be a retired ;)

Great to have you back. I guess we've turned this thread into out little forum for now. It'll probably be mostly about the playoffs for a while. Or maybe about beer. My avitar is a protein found in Barley seed. I think I may have ingested a few of them in my time.

Here's hoping for great results from Rosetta in CASP and from the Oilers in their run for the Cup.

Cheers,
Bill

Has anyone heard from the founder of our team "The Sailor"?
Noticed that still contributing (88th in the team) - Rosetta@home member since 27 Sep 2005. (I will venture a guess that this is also the start date of the team).
"Canadians doing their bit for the furtherance of science"

Noticed that we are close to overtaking 2 teams in the next month (US-Distributed and Ars Technica)! With a bit more crunching we can have Phoenix Rising (currently 6th) and XPC (currently 5th) as a future target.
And that will help shake off another team (Hardware Upgrade - Seti@home), that is currently on our threat list (ok, still many months away).

Yes a bit of competition is always good! Anything to help the science/research/cure.

Tarx,

"Hardware Upgrade - Seti@home" blew past us last week I think in the RAC ranking. We can sure get the next 2 teams in total credits if we keep this pace.

I replaced a couple old machines with a new one so I'm crunchin' more than twice what I was. Can't go much faster. The second last set of characters in the Win XP product key on my new machine is CP7WK. (CASP 7 WORK)? I ain't superstitious but...

All right, we hit 5 million credits tonight!

Anyone know what happened to Rog? He returned to the team a few weeks ago and brought some serious crunching power with him. Now he seems to have disappeared. Rog, your country needs you back!

>Hi Tyler.....sorry to be MIA for a bit. Had to do some clean up at WCG and some CPU maintenance etc. Should be back at 90% soon. Congrats to all on hitting the 5 million mark!.....Cheers, Rog.

Remind me - is Canada the 51st or 52nd state?
Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :)

Not yet - the last time the US tried "The offensive actions of the United States failed in every attempt to capture Canada." (HistoryCentral.com)
Of course that was 1812! Might be a bit different now...

One reason I like Rosetta is that the mods keep a clean house here.
Kudos to them. Too bad some people forget to clean themselves off when the come in.

CONGRATS EVERYBODY

From 10th to 9th in total credits.
And passing 5 million.

Have to get Bill to set up a round of those proteins.

According to Boincstats we should be in 8th in 17 days.

GO CANADA GO

In the Boinc combined stats Canadians all together rank 5th in country stats.

In teams stats Canada ranks 14th in the world. 1st place for Canadian teams. With 20+ projects, 1000+ people and 50,000,000+ credits. Not bad!
Boincstats says lunarcom 1st for Canada and only only 4th in the World and CDNgeezer is 3rd for Canada and just 368th in the world.

We should have a site for Canada, with stats like that.

So in typical Canadian fashion I say we set up a Commmision to investigate the feasibility of starting a web site. Of course we'll need a government grant to travel across the country. Any volunteers for the board? ;)

As to the "The Sailor" he's on about five projects and and hasn't made a post in any of them. I'll guess he's doesn't even lurk around here. You might try asking Moderator9 in this thread to contact the founder.

Keep Crunchin'

Unfortunately I didn't get a reply (see 1st post for this thread) from Kenny King (runs the Team Canada site for Climateprediction, Einstein@Home, Predictor@Home, LHC@Home, SETI@Home and Pirates@Home) - in any case it doesn't have a forum either.

There are also a few other smaller Rosetta@Home Canadian teams (e.g. BOINC@Canada, CANADA United and umm... CDNgeezer (our second most powerful team member!), what is Curse of 32?)
Maybe they would consider joining up under one banner? Hmmm... if we get a team forum it should make it easier... :) (as would trying to encourage other Canadian BOINC members to allocate some project time to Rosetta under our team, plus for new members recruited externally)
We want to have a new target in 18 days ;)

Once we somehow have a forum, it would be a good time for the moderator to try contact "The Sailor" to add a link to that forum.
Sadly, I don't have any ability to setup such a forum. But once it is there, I can help out.

Also, I didn't see anything mentioned about the ability to have subteams with BOINC - am I wrong? If not, then that would be a pity as that would be a great way to bring in new groups to our team (instead of them being their own team).

>Hi Tarx.....the curse thing is from E@H. It's a long story but essentially you are restricted to 32 WUs/day at E@H and with the new optimized Akos science app. many people were hitting this wall leaving their boxes sitting idle....hence the curse! A number of frustrated but dedicated E@Hers moved their boxes to R@H after I posted some info about R@H and CASP7. I felt obligated to join them to get them started but have since returned to 'Canada' after some 'cleanup' work at WCG etc. It would be nice to have more Canucks here for sure.....the 'Canada' team at R@H is the most successful and has the most members of all the Canadian/Canadien teams across BOINC I believe.....and it shows! You guys and lunarcom are doing a great job....hope you can get a website going, that would be great!.....Cheers, Rog.

I don't want to get anyones hopes up about the possibilities for this as they will probably say no to the request. But, I could ask the system administrator at Rosetta, if they have the capability to support a forum for teams. At present the this type of thread is all there is. But it might be possible for them to pull an old sever out of the hat that could have a separate forum for each team that wanted to use it. Within each forum you could then create specific threads.

We just took back a spot in the RAC rankings from "Hardware Upgrade - Seti@home" who had blown past us a while back. Looks like we keep adding more members and more power. If we can keep up the pace look for team Canada to move up a couple more spots in the near future. Awesome job everyone.

Go Canada!!!

My fingers are crossed for this - any news...?

And I noticed:
"Canada will overtake:
Days
US-Distributed 3.4
Ars Technica 17.8
Phoenix Rising 36.1

Canada will not be overtaken by anyone!"
:)
