Hello, i need your help for running rosetta@home on ubuntu. The box is ubuntu 10.10 x64, upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 x64. Rosetta and any other project wont attach. Nothing in the GUI client, error -102 in the prompt. Tried both installing via synaptic and manually with the .sh script, no luck yet. Thanks in advance.

I don't see a Linux host attached under the user ID that you posted from, so it really isn't hitting the project at all. This would generally point to a problem accessing the internet, or a problem before it can even try to access the internet.

Here is an FAQ indicating this is a read error. And pointing to a likely authority problem within your machine. Is the user that installed BOINC the same user that is running it?

I posted from windows pc at work. It can't open localhost. I know err 102 is not being able to read, but in promt i work with sudo. And yeah, only one user.

i run it on x-ubuntu 32bit, and have run it on ubuntu and easy peasy... I think all the same 10.10 ubuntu kernel.

Maybe its the 64bit...

Download BOINC from the linux software center... then it worked fine.

Do you meet the system requirements for boinc?

What does not work exactly?

Works great for me running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64-bit

I just followed the instructions I found here

I've had no problems running BOINC on Kubuntu 10.10 and it's working fine with two other projects (World Community Grid and malariacontrol.net). But on Rosetta@home, I've noticed that the status of most tasks assigned have the status of "download failed", and the messages indicate that components of the tasks that R@h attempts to upload to me don't exist.
Based on my crude attempt at interpreting this, it appears that the data is downloading fine, but the software to run it is not.

Here's the log of the last connection my Linux PC made to R@h:

Also, the status page for this host indicates many such errors.

Is there anything I can do at my end to assist?

There seem to be similar problems on Windows as well, so until operations get back to normal after the file server crash here, I would not invest too much time trying things on your end.

FWIW, Here is a more recent log fragment. Some tasks did download to my system, but apparently sending back the results is a challenge:

As you say, this may not be OS-specific. Good luck with the server repairs.

Right, the executable files that were missing have now been replaced on the server, but the upload handler is still a problem for all platforms.

After upgrading this machine to Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, Rosetta downloaded the Rosetta Mini 3.31 application.

The workunits download fine, the workunits run in the expected amount of time, but all returned units are seen as client error.

Guess I must abandon all workunits as there will not be any credit granted.

I will have to go back to check if Rosetta Mini 3.30 workunits were granted any credit. Uncertain about this point.

Credit is granted by a nightly run, and it happens in a way that doesn't show them on the front display of WUs. If you open a specific WU after 24hrs, you will see the credit granted.

Please don't let credit get in the way of the big picture here. CASP 10 (just like CASP 9) will show the significance of what you are contributing to here.
